Hey @linderpat - the wire only marginally improved. Lots of corrosion inside the wound part if that makes sense. Thanks for reminding me how to clean my old Ping putters
Went through some drama on my interior lights due to a failed Interior Light Delay Relay. Not wanting to spend mucho dinero on the Black Witch, I came up with an alternative that eliminates the delay but doesn't put undue electrical stress on lights or pins by incorporating a 53 relay in place of the $200 Interior Light Delay Relay. The goal would be to trigger the relay to switch on off the ground but I'm not too swift with this stuff so I don't know if this actually helps or not. I just don't want to spend almost $200 to make my lights work.
I ran into an issue with the driver side red light bulb holder. It was disintegrating due to some severe weather exposure. Not having another bulb socket at hand but having a handful of the right sized LEDs, I soldered two wire leads onto the bulb and put Male spade connectors on the other end to connect with the wiring in the door. Worked great and the LED bulb will probably outlive me
I have VW lights on order from an ebayer local to me so hopefully that is on the short list for things to do before Werks Reunion/Amelia Concours d'Elegance Cars & Coffee in 2 weeks.

Made a run to the PCA Zone Fest in Mount Dora Florida. Had a fun show at the Howey-in-the-Hills Mansion where we were the only 928 to be found.
Sadly, the next day we made a trip to a local antique market and I noticed the exhaust was hanging. Since it was Sunday of a holiday weekend, divine intervention allowed us to find a local shop WITH a lift and we used coat hangers to temp fix the broken exhaust hangers.
Only an independent used tire shop would approve of the coat hanger fix... we got SUPER lucky!
Temporarily fixed the exhaust hangers for Sharks in the Mountains with generic hangers from AutoZone. More exhaust hanger parts to be ordered soon!
Well - getting ready for the big ride to Sharks in the Badlands (It will be a 5-6K mile round trip from Florida!)
Have accomplished quite a bit in the last month or so (maybe some things a little longer over COVID lockdowns).
I'm documenting key stuff because aging memory doesn't always remember (I highly recommend having a thread for your car(s) )
- Recovered Seats (I'm no Rob Budd or Paul Champagne)
- Rewired and fixed Antilock Brakes
- Changed out reverse light switch and put in LEDs for reverse lights
- Changed Oil
- went back to CASTROL 20W50 Oil with RISLONE ZDDP additive
- Mobil 1 15w50 was weeping from spots where there was no prior leak
Changed transmission/differential fluid - RedLine 75w90NS
Flushed Cooling System using the "Greg Brown Method" -
- Drain, Fill with Tap Water,
- Drain, Fill with Distilled, Repeat 3x
- Fill with 50/50 Porsche Coolant and Distilled Water
Added in radiator temperature sensor for SPAL pusher fan in front of radiator powered by a Derale controller
- Fan is triggered by AC compressor voltage or temperature trigger from radiator sensor.
- Nice to have a way to combat HEAT SOAK from the AC Condenser
Replaced Accelerator Cable and Throttle Cable
- MAN - that woke the car up!
Swapped Temp II and Temperature Sensor
Replaced Fuel Pump and Filter
- Also replaced Fuel S Pipe as the old one got tweaked taking apart the connections
Filled Timing Belt Tensioner with STP (using gravity method)
Check Timing Belt Tension
- Belt, Rollers, Gears all passed visual and tension was spot on
- Belt is older (6-7 years) but not many miles (<1K)
Replaced Petcock in Heater Valve Line with Heater Valve
Fixed leaking diaphragm in HVAC (Footwell Diaphragm)
Replaced Ashtray internals with USB, 12V Accessory and Voltmeter
Found Permanent home for Bluetooth Microphone
Added XM accessory to integrate satellite as option on the stereo ($20 part and get XM for 3 months free!)
Cleaned all grounds
Deoxit of CE Panel
Eliminated significant electrical AMP draws (seat memory, driver seat, and a few non-essentials) .... cheap multi-meter registers .06 amps for load but this could be nearly zero as major offenders were eliminated and I got this reading with ALL of the relays out and pulling nearly all of the fuses.
Left to do...
I am going to swap out the red tail lights and two lower stop lights with LEDs before the trip. (means I will also be defeating the bulb check)
I MAY mess around with the charging system a little as at operating temp with AC on full blast and all three fans running, I get 12.4-12.6 volts at idle.
