The Fun section of the Fun Run has been repaved :)
Rectortown Road has been repaved. West of the town (Rectortown) the road had become a bit rough. This is also the really fun section that dives, curves, then swoops up the far side of stream valley. I test drove the route a few weeks ago and was pleased to find fresh pavement. The map, text turn-by-turn directions, a Google Earth KMZ file, and a GPX file will be posted on the Frenzy site.

Dave - depending on which way you guys go, you could hook up with our caravan. We will be taking that wonderful I-68 through Northern MD, which is almost like our own autobahn! Here's our itenierary for Friday morning, for you or anyone else who wants to join in (we'll have about 6 or 7 sharks):
Leave north burbs of Pitt at 10a, from T-Bones Plaza at Wexford exit, I-79. Head south on I-79, then meet up with Mike B. and the Ohio gang around 11am along I-79/70 just east of Little Washington at the J. Barry Stout Park and Ride lot at exit 20. Then continue East/south staying on I-79 down through Morgantown, WV, and catch I-68 east in WV. We proceed into MD and meet up with a couple more sharks at about 1 pm. at Grantsville, Exit 22 on I-68 in MD. Grab lunch at Arby's. From there, straight to I-70 at Hagerstown, then down to Frederick at the 15, then south on that to Leesburg VA and into Sterling from the back end like we always do.

Surely you are kidding about MD I-68 being like the Autobahn. The MD Troopers run KA pretty aggressively and I've seen vehicles pulled for seemingly not much over the limit (based on my own rate of speed).
It's a gorgeous road, and smooth as silk. Of course, one has to endure I-79 from Washington PA to the split at I-68 in WVA, which has been under construction, and absolutely terrible with most of the time spent traveling on the shoulders, and potholes large enough to swallow a Cadillac. For that alone, it's *almost* worth taking the PA Turnpike to Breezewood, then down I-70, etc.
I'l be on I-79 before the Frenzy, so can confirm if the roads are still under destruction. Hope this is helpful.

From Detroit, it's actually the faster way, too. But PA recently began using gray paint schemes vs. their previous white (gray is a throwback scheme). Anyways, they also run a LOT of K Band, aside from Ka

Try our Route Dave - just keep the tech on. You will get to stretch your legs.

OK we will review the route and see if we can come up w/ a meeting point that works for us, also we won't be going past posted limits, just keeping up w/ the Interstate traffic and staying ahead of large trucks
Thanks guys!

I said that the evening we left to go to 3rd Coast. Ended up with two of us getting tickets for above 90mph.......coming down from a rather higher speed run. I don't believe you either.

Strongly disagree - been travelling that route for years, for business and pleasure. It is our yearly caravan route for Frenzy. Of course there are no guarantees on any road, but we run well equipped with technology. We rarely see any LEOs on either stretch of 79 or 68. We typically sail along between 100 and 120 on I-68. The others (Rick, Bill, Greywolf) can verfiy. As to the PA turnpike, that is singularly one of the worst roads in the US. I have driven in almost every state, crisscrossing this country multiple times. Few roads suck as much as the PA turnpike. Also, it is heavily policed between Pittsburgh and Breezewood. I drive it frequently (most recently, weekend before last to the Laurel Mts - lots of heat out), and it sucks.

Road Report:
Interstate 68 & Interstate 79 on the ~ 150 mile stretch from Washington, PA to just north of Hagerstown MD was clear today, but had the following conditions noted :
Pennsylvania:
At least a half a dozen troopers, most of them just observing traffic/running RADAR. This is not counting the six troopers posted @ rest stops, monitoring traffic along Interstate 79. They were in a mixture of marked cruisers. Either the new gray ones, or the outgoing white ones. The gray ones are much tougher to spot from a distance!!!
West Virginia:
Both directions of Interstate 79 are being repaved this week from the Pennsylvania state line to Morgantown. This was much better than last trip on I-79 where one was forced to "drive" the shoulder where the huge potholes were at. Today, It was one lane in each direction and while traffic flowed smoothly, and it was hard to go above 50 mph. Even with the fresh asphalt, it was a terrible job, and not smooth at all. ROUGH ROAD! Only one trooper seen in all of West Virginia.
Maryland:
At least a half a dozen troopers working. All but one had somebody pulled over. The one in the median was using laser to monitor traffic. He was about 15 miles east of the state line coming from West Virginia. The rest seem to be closer to Cumberland, before the speed limit drops as one goes through the city.
The roads in Maryland were smooth and nice. While the roads and conditions invited high-speeds, reasonable and prudent was the order of the day.
I hope this information is helpful in planning your trip
safe travels.

Weather Underground "Wundermap" model forecasts
Here is the link to the Weather Underground Wundermap for those who want to play forecaster and see what they might encounter during the drive to Frenzy: CLICK https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap
NOTE: Turn off the weather stations data and turn on the Model Data. Use the slider at the bottom of the screen to play the model animation or manually click through the 6 hour intervals. The times are 24-hour GMT, and displayed times already account for subtracting 4 hours from the times to determine Frenzy day and time (EDT).
