Question about 928S Market Prices
Hey Rennlist Friends,
I'm wondering if you people here in the 928 specific forum could help me determine a fair market price for my 1983 928S. I've looked at past sales here and on eBay. I've also used the Hagerty value tool. The car I'm trying to determine a fair selling price for is listed here on Rennlist too (you can check it out here to read the details so you can help provide me with an accurate valuation: https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...ever-seen.html). My goal is to get a fair price and to get this car into the hands of a collector. So, it would be a great help if you guys could give me some feedback on what a fair price would be given the miles, condition, color, options, etc. Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide.

Appears you've done your pricing research and have already listed on the RL "Vehicle Marketplace Forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...ever-seen.html

Take a look at how not to sell your car in the current ‘83 5 spd on BaT right now. Your previous posting has absolutely no info to the interior. That car at least has more interior shots and the rare sports seats and all its documentations. Not to mention 1owner, Please take the constructive critism seriously, as several of us had suggested more pics back a few weeks ago.
-if the dash and seats are crack free, show them
-get the fog lights surrounds from roger or mark and place them in
from your current ad, the car is worth $15-18k, if the interior is as nice as you describe it.
With more pics and info, easily $25k.

Ok, since you asked.
Not sure on price. I'd be more in the mid to low 20s range.
But...
There are issues. Mainly with the ad.
First off, it's full of mistakes.
Miles are quite low, but nowhere near 'lowest'. I can think of three off the top of my head that are 4 digits on the odo. A handful more that are under 20k.
As says 4 speed, it's a 5 speed. The pic of the shifter even shows it's a 5 speed.
You list options, such as foglights, intermittent wipers and power windows, among others. Those are standard equipment on the 928. There should be a sticker under the back carpet listing the options. There's a list of what the codes mean in the "New Visitor" sticky.
Engine type is "4.7L V-8", not 'fuel injected'. Porsche hasn't sold a car with a carb in a long, long time.
You list "all original". It's not. Lights are not (more on that in a bit).
While some of this may seem 'nit picky', someone who is buying a 35 year old car for a premium price is going to be very nit picky.
Reading the ad, it seems like you don't know some basic facts about the car.
Pics:
While the pic of the left tail light, left headlight and hood crest are very artistic, they don't show much. The only interior pics are two of the console and one of the shifter. No under hood pics at all.
You promised (in the ad) to update and add more pics. 2 months ago.
Lights:
The headlights are H4s The bumper lights are Euro fog & driving lights. Those were never original on a US car.
They are far superior for lighting purposes, but they aren't DOT compliant (some really stupid rules).
The headlights don't sit right. Not sure why. It could be just an install/alignment issue. Or it could be worse.
The frames around the fog & driving lights are different on a US car than a Euro. The ones that will fit those lights are very hard to find. And not cheap when you can find them.
You may want to return the original US fog & parking lights. Those are fairly easy to find and not terribly expensive.
Do the fog & driving lights work the way they are supposed to?
Fogs (outer light) should come on when headlights or marker lights are turned on and the fog light button pushed.
Driving lights (inner lights) should come on when you pull the turn signal stalk for 'flash to pass' or when lights are on and you turn on the high beams.
It's a different wiring setup, and I'm curious if the PO went to all the trouble to find and install the lights, did he wire them up correctly?

I posted to the linked FS thread; now that this thread has perked up, I will copy here as a note on what some of us look for in an ad (re above ref to what not to post in your ad).
<<I count 28 pics, some of which are dupes or nearly so and none of the engine. So I think you are priced too high for a car with no engine , and your mechanical history supports this as there is no appreciable mention of what has been done other than "It's been cared for".
In your non-interference engine the belt isn't critical, but a buyer might want to know when to expect this expense. I'm not sure if cared for includes regular coolant changes to protect the head gasket. Sorry -- I sound peevish; but it does sound like top dollar which it may well deserve; I would be more excited if I heard specific details on the mechanics. That's just me?>>

Thank you very much for taking the time to write out this well thought out and thorough reply. I have fixed some of the issues regarding the listing such as the transmission being a 5 speed. In that case I simply selected the wrong item from the drop down box accidentally. Thank you for noticing. As for the lights, this is a detail I was currently not aware of. I do agree there are some stupid DOT rules around lighting in the US. As for photos, as stated in one of my replies above, I will get those this Monday or Tuesday for you guys. Sorry for the delay on those. I guess you could say I'm not the most motivated seller.
Again, thank you for your very detailed feedback. I appreciate your time.

Regarding photos of the engine and interior, you will be best served to take these photographs on an overcast day or early in the morning when the sun is up but the car is fully in the shade. Then set your camera for a "cloudy day" or similar setting. It is very hard to get good interior photos with a car in direct sunlight, due to the shadows.
If it were me, I'd get the car up on jack stands and remove the tires/wheels, and then take photos of the suspension and under side that way.
Bring A Trailer has a link to a pretty good article about photographing a car for sale.

Wow. That is one nice 928 there Jonathan. Full leather interior and not pulling away from the defrost vents. Perfect pod. Cargo cover. H4 headlights? Nice. Sunroof delete (bonus to many). Original platinum anodized wheel finish looks good. Even has the infamous jump post/drip shield cover. Do yourself a favor and put in a proper Mahle air filter (P/N 928 110 185 03) and the engine compartment will be just about as good as it can get. The only knock I can see on the interior is the lack of an original Monterey SQR 23 radio.
My guess on price if this went up for auction is that it could bring $22-$27K. Not the most desirable 928 year, but it has a very desirable color combination, very low mileage, is a 5-speed, and interior and paint looks to be in very good condition. If it were my car I'd drop a few hundred buck to have it professionally detailed inside and out and have some professional photos taken. I say that because IMO this car is that good. It deserves to be taken to the next level before going up for sale.
EDIT: I just saw your for sale ad here. The asking price is steep. Take a look at BaT and you will see that no 1980 to 1984 cars have gone for more than $30K except for the Weissach and the 6K mile '84. Your closest comp is this car https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1983-porsche-928s-10/. Yours is a better color combo and better condition IMO, so you may be able to realize mid to high 20's given the right buyers in the room.
