My interesting day
Hot wheels!!
The big moment
I guess I’ll start off with a little brag.. IM A MINI CELEB NOW!
My day started as a fairly normal start to a car show morning. Got up early and made my way to Caffeine and Octane here in ATL. I thought I lined up early enough for a good spot... but NO the Porsche Corral was full to the brim and so was the main “special” Porsche corral.
I ended up being waved into one of the “gates” by a nice lady while searching for a spot and ended up with the classic BelAir’s. I stayed there for a bit then was notified by my friend Richard that his good friend Mike had found an open spot for me in the Main Porsche corral, and to get there ASAP so It wouldn’t be stolen.
Once inside “Gate 2” I headed to the “special” Porsche area, I found the spot which was right next to a nice white 914, and backed in. Making myself comfortable amongst the mass amount of 911’s.
I enjoyed looking at the surrounding Porsche heritage, and found my self caught off guard by the “beehive” of people surrounding someone, who I very quickly realized was Magnus Walker.
I thought this was some crazy stroke of luck because 2 days before (Friday) I had seen him at Porsche Cars NA where I’m currently doing my technician training, and had thought how cool it would be to talk to him and chat about Porsches. (Sadly I’m not aloud to do that at PCNA to respect celebs who frequent the area)
I walked over to the beehive of people to see him taking pictures with people and giving autographs, I thought that I’d just stay back and enjoy the time without a signature or picture because memories are great. Until his producer pulled him aside to talk about some cars that they should go view. (Since the were filming an episode for season 3 of the show Caffeine and Octane.)
I started thinking about how he loves classics and owns a 928 of his own, I decided to talk to Richards wife Sandy about that fact. When she came up with the idea to run to his producer and mention how my 928 was about 2 rows away, and it’s my first car, along with me being a female technician training with Porsche, who does all of the work on my car myself.
Magnus’s producer decided that it was a great story, and said that he would have the group work their way towards my car to do a brief interview and talk about my 928.
After that, I became so anxious and 45 minutes felt like 2 hours in the sun. His producer ran over to tell me that he hadn’t forgot about me, then about about 15 minutes before they arrived at my car. Magnus, filming dude, and a crowd of about 80 people right behind them arrived at my car. I was so crazy exited I was last for words a little bit.
Magnus came up introduced himself, and asked my name. I answered and he then went on with saying about how beautiful the Iris Bleu Metallic was on my car, and he himself had a 78 928 himself ( I forget the color. Forest green or some sort) He noticed the plush shark that I had on the roof of my car which was also a nice blue color to match it, he appreciated the humor of it. He asked where I was from, and I answered with CA. He seemed impressed and went on with saying how he’s there a lot and visits SharkWerks a lot in the Bay Area. He then started to poke his head through the driver window to look at the interior, and I mentioned that he could feel free to take a seat if he’d like. He seemed to gladly take up that offer and took a seat and looked around inside. After what was probably a good 4 minutes of back and forth brief conversation I asked if he would be willing to sign the door jam of my car, he said he would gladly do that and asked where I wanted it, I pointed above the color ID sticker and said “Right here, but pretty much any here you feel like.” He sat on the edge of the door jam and signed away. That moment was awesome it felt like time kinda froze, he took his time and seemed happy to do so.
After signing he got up and noticed the Hot Wheels 78’ 928 that I had placed on my hood for display. He admired it and said it was really cool especially as an original collectors 928 still in package. I the mentioned that it was a perfect replica of the 928 that my boyfriend owns, a Hell Bronze Gold 78’. He seemed to enjoy that because he then again mentioned how he also has a 78’ which he loves.
After that conversation / interview which seemed very brief but felt like time slowed down, he asked if I’d like a picture together and we proceeded to do so. After the photo, I said thank you so much for talking to me about my car and it was an honor. He said anytime and he loved the car...
About 20 minutes later his producer came back to ask if I’d stay until 11 so the could take a high quality surround view “photo” of my car for their show, since I’d have a little segment due to the ”interview.” I told him I would gladly wait, which I did. (Gladly)
He then came back about 1.5 hrs later with his videographer and his super fancy “still shot camera” and proceeded to take a 360 degree view of my car (and the shark on top) While that happened he asked for my cell # as he would be calling me in about a month to ask about some specs of my car and some information about myself.
SO... long story short, I will be in an episode of Caffeine and Octane with Magnus Walker on NBC Sports some time in August on a Tuesday night. The episode will be on a rotating schedule until god knows when. When I get my call in about a month I will try to get some better details. .
I also plan to clear coat the signature or some sort of sealant to preserve it

Scruffy341,
Its very inspiring to hear of your exploits with Porsche and 928s. For many of us in this group we have endured decades of 928 detractors among the vast landscape of Porsche Passion, but we're now finally feeling some satisfaction as the world begins to embrace these fantastic cars. I've often wondered if it all came on a little "too late" for long term traction, as most of the classics that endure across generations were an instant hit when they were new (think Mustangs, 911s, etc) The commitment of yourself and others of your generation for a car that went into production over 40 years ago ensures a bright future for the model. Thank you and I hope for the best of success for you at Porsche.
