Well, among other things, you got Euro H4 headlights. Euro fog & driving lights. What appears to be a 300hp Euro S motor. Those three things alone are worth what you paid for it.

I will bet you a buck that the VIN is actually "WP0ZZZ..." It can't be "WP0JA0..." Wrong body style. It would have to be "WP0JB0..."

You can plug the VIN into the "Official VIN Check" thread to find out what options are on it.

Rob, Samuel & all the others are familiar enough with the VINs that even if you post it as 'WP0JA0..." they will figure out what it really is.

Tag under the hood, along the passenger side fender, although I don't see it in the pics. I do see the tag right by the hood latch under the headlight bar.
There should also be a sticker on the door jamb, and another one under the rear hatch carpet.

Euro cars got 'federalized'. They had lights (yours didn't). safety and emissions brought to US standards. There should be a sticker on the door jamb that says who did it and when, and it may have a 'new' VIN with it.

That MAY explain the odd VIN. Some places used 'just a number', some of which ended up on the title, some didn't.

Wisconsin Joe, the VIN on the fender will always show a ZZZ number no matter where the car was destined from the factory. It had something to do with the timing of the actual VIN and where the car was being sent. Any kind of fenders could have been put on the car at any time. One of my 84 Euros came without the side marker light behind the front wheel.(the fenders had both been replaced)

Mike, after you vacuum the original hood insulation debris from the fuel injection plate, call 928Intl to get a replacement air box to protect your engine.

Over the years, before and after DMV computer systems, registering the Euro gray market cars has been a mixed bag of challenges.

You might have some VIN unraveling to do.

At one point a few years ago folks here had found a DOT contact that had access to all original importation records from the gray market era that was able to unearth records.

This car was listed at IAA salvage auctions last year. I don't remember the details but I remember the car I believe it was a donation but I could be wrong. You can also see the IAA barcode on your title as well

Cool car. Worthy candidate for restoration. I jumped in back in 2011 without a clue. Glad I did it the way I did. If I did all my homework and research, I would be restoring a 66 Mustang instead and what fun would that be

Euro motor spuder intake legs are a slightly larger diameter than non-Euro too.

Very true. I forgot about that. My 944 has a "ZZZ" VIN on the firewall, despite being a US car (same VIN thing).
And the tag isn't actually on the fender itself. It's on the 'frame' that the fender attaches to. There's a cutout in the fender so that the frame underneath is visible.

That VIN would be the correct number, as in the rest of the VIN, so that the OP can find out what the VIN is supposed to be.

Mine (85 Euro) has the "ZZZ" tag on the fender, the VIN tag by the hood latch and the sticker in the door jamb (sticker in back is gone). All those match. It also has a little plastic VIN on the dash (where many US made cars have them). It looks like something made in a trophy shop, but again, it's the correct VIN. I haven't gotten pulled over (yet - knock on wood), but since all the numbers match, I'm not too worried about having to explain it to a cop.

There are 4 stickers in the door jamb. One is the color & interior code. One is a bar code, with the last part of the VIN on it "92FS...".
The other 2 are from when it was federalized. One shows the name and date of the importer/federalizer, along with weights and tire pressures, VIN and a 'this certifies that this car complies with all yada, yada, yada...' statement. The other is a State of New Jersey DMV sticker that says there was a special VIN issued to the car after examination. It has the "true VIN", and then a 4 digit "assigned VIN" and somebody's initials. IIRC, there have been folks who had that 'special VIN' on the title, and all sorts of difficulties getting the car registered because the DMV wouldn't accept it and wanted the 17 digit VIN.

There should also be a VIN# plate on the 'a' pillar about half way up on the driver's side. My '83 euro has a # etched into the passenger's side fender engine bay lip, A stamped plate under the headlamp bar, A stamped plate under the windshield 'A' pillar,A sticker on the driver's door jam and another sticker under the trunk mat... New Jersey DMV can be a butt pain....I had to go back to them 5 times before they realized that a GERMAN car, BUILT in GERMANY will have a GERMAN VIN NUMBER....

Congrats. Looks like you have a 'rare' Euro model. If you're lucky, they haven't F**ed with too much...You should have dual exhaust pipes, and NO cats or EPA CRAP...
