A/C Question - Cold to Hot
1987: On a grocery get run yesterday, the air conditioning was actually too cold. I moved the temperature dial up to 70ish and then all of a sudden I start getting warm air.
Frustrated. I slid the temperature dial all the way to the right then back all the way to the left and it starts to blow cold again.
Vacuum related, electrical or the AC control.
This occurred within the first 4 or 5 minutes from a cold start and drive. Central Florida, low 80s temperature day.
Thoughts?

Sounds as though you have one of the rare examples that actually works!
When you opt for temperature control the system responds to what the temperature sensor inside the dash actually sees. If you were cold then it will open the heater flaps to let it warm air to cool things off. Whether it is calibrated correctly remains to be seen . Did you give it chance to settle out?

It wasn't a long drive so I didnt' have time for it to settle. I use to move it off the coldest setting and it was fine...like a month or so ago
I am going to try again today and do a longer drive.

That sounds like the exterior temp sensor mounted to the front splash shield of the front left wheel. Cut out the connector and make your own or solder the wires together. I tried cleaning the connector before and the problem reoccurred soon after but not since my fix.
When the connection to the sensor is bad the HVAC system opens the heater flap unless the temp slider is moved all the way left where it triggers a switch that overrides the auto temp function.
