Default 928 Instrument cluster compatibility

My instrument cluster in my 79 928 auto has failed and I have not been successful with the how to repairs from this site and others. I just located a 1982 928 auto cluster that appears to be identical to mine. Its mileage reading is very close and the seller says its in perfect working condition. So my question is which years share the same cluster? From what I've read (vague) this 82 should work. Anyone know for sure before I buy it.

The years go 78 only, 79-81,82-84, and then 85-88.

The 79-81 cluster has 12 pin plugs and the 82-84 has 14 pin plugs.

As Blake said if it is a 82 cluster it will not work. Check the pin count on the three main connections - 3 x 12 will work, 3 x 14 will not work.
Have you replaced the circuit foil on the back of your 79 cluster - that is usually the main issue and is readily available.

Thank you so much for saving me the $300.00 I was going to waist. I looked online and did not see any circuit foils. I will contact 928sRus soon. Also, since I removed the cluster my headlights don't illuminate and the windows switches are not receiving any power. I'm not driving it but not having the cluster in the car is causing those issues? It happened around the same time. Incomplete circuits?
