Look ma, no alternator cooling hose

In our 84 manual, there was a hooked air tube there, which housed this sensor. Upon dissecting the 85 auto, I find no such tubing. There is a support bracket in the wheel well wall, but I find no hose connection point at the alternator. Is the hose not part of the 85 system? Is this an aftermarket alternator? I don't know if you have the correct alternator, but you are missing the rear cover which allows for the hose to
be attached. PET calls it an alternator cowl and part number 928 603 133 04. |
Hi Tim,
That looks like a replacement alternator. It doesn't look like it is compatible with the 928 cooling duct and shroud system. If it's working OK, you might keep it for a while. Otherwise Roger has the correct alternator, shroud and cooling duct that you can put your outside temp sensor into. Good luck, Dave |
That alternator is a Bosch unit (from the decal on the side) and I see at least one bolt that has enough length to support the cowling, washer and nut to which the air tube would connect.
I do question the ride height that you are running since you have definite road rash on the side of the alternator which usually means your ride height is too low or that your have been stunt driving. Have you been stunt driving again? :) |
John Curry is right. I can't read the model number, but it would be great if you could simply buy the shroud and ducting from Roger.

Is your car 84 or 85? The alternator looks correct for 85-95 and those covers are still available

I need to make the official request for the sensor shown and the hose described as missing. I do believe that the posters are correct about the alternator. Where may one procure the sensor shown? |

Hi Tim,
That sensor in the alternator duct hose is important to the operation of the climate control. Without it connected, the climate control operates like an on-off switch. It will work ok, but with a slow response, without the duct, just sitting loose(ish). Good luck, Dave |

Don't bother with the site, give him a call or send him an email. Very responsive, and he has many MANY things that aren't on the site.
