Is inner CV joint flange available as separate part?
Looking at illustration 502-05 in 1991 PET, I don’t see the flange which is pressed onto inner joint shown as separate part in diagram, though the actual joint is available separately as a repair kit. The wide part of inner boot sits on this flange.
I’m finishing install of new boots this weekend, and I may tap the existing flange off as will make putting on boot easier without going near newly greased joint. But I don’t want to do that if for any reason I damage the flange tapping it off the joint (the joint is fine - little visible wear and no noise).
Why isn’t it shown separately on the MY 1991 drawing?

Isnt the flange item 7 ? To save drawing 2 flanges facing opposite directions, I think they have used 1 drawing for both, with only the outer joint flange facing correctly. These did change in shape early on, as those with a shallow lip for the boot to seat on were prone to having the boot slip off. The boot also changed to a thicker lip for the deeper groove.
PET doesnt show those flanges until 87 MY; prior to that it only shows a flat gasket, but having done my boots, I am sure I have flanges with the deep grooves for the large end of the boots.
Would you believe the p/no for the item 7 'lid', 997.332.267.00 , is the same for a 1985 911? That year shows 2 drive shafts - 1 with the unitary outer joint, and 1 with a stub axle that bolts to the outer joint, as in early 928s. This latter drive shaft shows a 'joint flange' that looks like the one I speak of with the deep groove for the boot - 928.332.097.00 - sounds like it was a 928 part first?
I think the 'lids' are between the joint body and the diff drive flange (and at the outer 2 piece joint ) to seal the grease in. The joint flanges are those that the rubber boots fit onto.

Thanks JP, but I think the part 7 ‘lid’ is that - the grease cover you describe. There is one in the kit, just as there is with aftermarket cv boot kit. But I’m baffled by the illustration!

I agree , it is a poor illustration - the 911 version is more specific. I will try to find a pic of the thing that the boots fit onto.
Video in this thread

shows the guy tapping the flange off the joint body easily, but he doesnt separate the boot from the flange, so you cant see the shape of the boot socket.

Thanks for that link. I have the joint cleaned and off axle, so it’s tricky to tap the flange off as in the video. I think I’ll install it back on axle then I can tap flange off, and it will be much easier to attach the new boot as can get fingers inside and pull it on. I’ll pack grease into joint when it’s on the axle.
