Here is a before pic of the engine (depressing!) and another one after a proper cleaning with several cans of brake cleaner, a liberal spraying of the entire engine bay with degresaer, then a thorough pressure wash:

It has 4 straps on the air cleaner lid & a jump post cover, so that's a good sign!

Nice story! There are many cars I've had over the years that I'd like to have back. I wish I had been clever enough to have saved the VIN to track them down today.

congrats on your car bro ! nice to hear, I have mine almost a year now and I like it more than when I bought it, the more little things I do the more I like it, and also the driving, such a great car to drive and to appreciate.

regards

Good points! I didn't think about that. The car is 100% bone stock and un-molested other than the few things that I did to it in the 1990's.

One thing that you might try with respect to finding the VIN of any of your old cars is through your insurance company. If you happen to know who you had the car insured by, often they will still have a record of it in their files so you might get lucky!

Very cool, good to see pictures, and 5-speed LSD S4 is a good 'un.
