Default Torque Tube Rebuild

Known TT issue, I do not have access to a lift right now so R/R will be done by reputable garage. I have been thru the threads and have found many ideas however now I'm more confused.
Who out there does the best quality TT rebuild ? Not the cheap autozone mechanic Not the dealer just want it done right. This one is getting worked out not left sitting around in the garage.

You have options- this depends on what you want to achieve and spend. If you want to achieve a like for like replacement then 928 International offer a rebuild service at very reasonable cost. If you want to go the upgrade route then you should consider the super bearing option offered by Constantine at Black Sea R&D. Assuming you are talking about a 1989 S4 it will thus be an automatic with the 28mm shaft. If so you then have to make a decision as to whether to retain the stock shaft and stock clamp or go the upgrade route. Constantine offers his Superclamp and an upgraded drive shaft specification and Greg Brown at Precision Motorwerks offers his drive shaft. Both Constantine and Greg rebuild torque tubes that can be installed by your mechanic. We also have a number of excellent 928 specialists on this list who can do the installation for you. If your mechanic has credible experience dropping and reinstalling the 928 transaxle all well and good otherwise beware!

You should also note that replacing the torque converter bearings whilst the system is out is generally accepted to be standard practice.

I think that covers your options/decisions

Other items you may wish to replace include the transmission mounts, four sections of soft ATF lines and the soft vacuum lines. The heater valve may get touched during the process, so it's a good time for a new one and/or its short hose. The ATF gets drained, so it's a good time to do a full service (filter, gasket). Since the cross-member comes out, you'll be needing an alignment - start looking the important details in this forum, and for a shop that takes direction. (I tried very hard to put mine back in the same way, I'm about to use the string technique to check it, and I'll be watching the tires closely.)

It's a good time for other stuff, too, like new CV boots, shocks, and ride height adjustment. I'm piling it on, but hopefully dropping the transaxle will be a once in a lifetime experience for you.

I just sent mine to Constantine at Black Sea R&D . He did the total rebuild and it's going to arrive today via Fedex. The price was very reasonable considering all the things he did.

PM Constantine and ask him to rebuild your TT with his super Bearings. He's just north of you in GA.

Is that a garage that was founded in 1928 and the letter1 fell off the roof, is it the 928th garage in a row of 1000, or are they 928 specialists of some form?

Assuming the latter, do they have established form on this list as a matter of interest? I dare say there are some outfits in the States that fit the bill that are not regulars on this list but the ones that are appear to be pretty darn good and contribute big time.

Default Torque Tube Rebuild

Local Reputable 928 "specialty" garage not a fly by night. Wasn't trying for a shameless plug was only trying to answer a reply to be careful who pulls the TT. Looks like I will be sending it to Constantine to rebuild with his super Bearings. His work shows to have AAA praises everywhere I look.
Again thank you to everyone with the help.

To be clear, I only rebuild torque tubes for vehicles in my own shop.....and I only do this because of the shipping cost and time required to send torque tubes to Constantine. I do not rebuild them for vehicles that I'm not working on, in my shop.

I do supply quite a few of my 300M driveshafts to people across the country....and occasionally ship one to Constantine for him to install. I do not make bearings or couplers for the flexplate....that would be stepping on Constantine's toes, in my book.

Noted and hopefully registered in my somewhat decrepit grey matter.

Mark and Roger offer "stock" rebuilds with new bearings. Not as elegant as Constantine's work-of-art bearings and all, but for the majority of folks who just need one to last another 100k or so. There are options.
