Default 1979 engine installation
can the engine be lowered into mate with the bellhousing with the clutch in place? I searched before asking.

It's probably possible, but more trouble than it's worth.

You will need to adjust the clutch to ensure proper function after the engine gets put back in anyway, so I would remove it.
