Default After Market Muffler for 1986.5- 928s

My 928s has straight pipes and is LOUD, I mean really loud. I am looking to tone it down but don't want to shell out big bucks for a OEM muffler. Any suggestions on an affordable aftermarket muffler that will fit? I used a Walker on my 944 and it worked fine but the 928 is much tighter fit. Thanks.

I don't know if you can still get them, but my car has a Borla...the tips are not the most attractive, but it does sound good (FWIW, I also have headers, stock cats and no presilencers). Not overly loud.

Good point...the Borla I have is also fitted to a dual exhaust but I think my exhaust is non-stock...both pipes route around the same side of the car...looking at the piping entering the stock muffler, it would require some modification to get Borla to match the stock pipe layout.

As pointed out, 86.5 is unique, as it has the dual inputs like an S4 (one crosses the rear of the Diff), but unlike an S4 the dual outputs exit the sided and not the back.

Best bet as Mark stated above is to source a Used Stock one, anything else will need to be fabricated be a good muffler shop and that will cost $ too

Be thankful it is not an 85 or and 86 as they are one piece from the CATS back

Thanks for the input on the muffler. I looked for the Borla but no luck so I purchased a used unit as suggested. Hopefully it will tone it down so it doesn't look like my wife is yelling at me while we are cruising.
