S4 Transmission Vacuum Line
Hello, has anyone ever replace the transmission Vacuum Line before. If so how did you feed it through / where did you feed it through? I plan on using a silicon line. I just removed the exhaust (have to replace the vacuum modulator).

The soft line at the back just goes up on top of the TT and meets a hard line that basically runs the length of the torque tube.
At the front, the soft line drops down from the check valve area onto the top of the TT. I dropped an extra long piece of hose from the check valve to behind the upper bell housing and then down past the right small heat shield. I removed the right small heat shield so I could get my hand up to the top of the TT and dislodge the hard line from the clip that hold it there. I then brought the end of the hard line down to the right side of the TT so I could visually see the attachment point of hard line to soft line. Once it was connected, I moved the hard line back into the clip to hold it and pulled the excess soft line back into the engine compartment and trimmed the excess there.

I was contemplating your question while I had my torque tube and transaxle out over the past month. At the transaxle end, anyway, replacing the soft line would be impossible in situ. The stock tube, btw, is a very high quality rubber with a fabric covering, that runs through bigger rubber tubing at chafe points. Mine seemed to be in good shape except the ends, which had taken a permanent set and had some radial cracking. It and the modulator held vacuum. I considering snipping off the ends, but it would become too short. I replaced it with some tubing I got from Roger.
Anyway, if I had to replace the vacuum line, I'd jury-rig a whole length of tubing from engine compartment to transmission, routing it wherever I could. Perhaps metal tubing near the exhaust. I'm sure this ugly hack has been done a few times, quietly.
