First I would drain the fuel tank, put some fresh fuel in it and then jump the fuel pump relay and see if it works. Followed by cracking open the return line and flushing out the fuel line. Then crank over the engine by hand and have a good look at the timing belt and try to see if the water pump and timing belt tensioner pulley is turning. At some point I would check the oil level too. Then, if all looks good enough, install the computers and try to start it. To me the number one priority would be to first get the engine running to see if it's worth spending more money on this car.

I could try and start it since I got the second computer today, but I was worried about starting it before I changed the timing belt. The motor isn't seized and does have compression. Allegedly it ran when it was parked to get some body work done and then just sat.

Some really good advice posted right there ^

My bet would be that the fuel pump is non-functional and would need to be replaced.

I did get the other computer today, so I have both of those now. I didn't hook them up to the car yet, but I did a quick check on as much of the wiring as I could and then hooked up power to the car. Definitely got some good signs of life out of things.

Gauge cluster, blinkers, running lights, brake lights, and seats (some of the motors) seemed to work.

Windows, mirrors, sunroof, radio, headlights, foglights, hvac, and horn didn't do anything. I'm not sure if some of those only work with the engine actually running (my brother's bmw and my mom's vw both do some stuff like that) or if they are some of these blank relay spots in the fuse box? I found some plastic placard things that list out the fuses and some of the relays, but it doesn't say anything about the connectors.

I did find a broken wire on the blue connector in the fuse box. Anyone know what that might be?

Did just manage to stumble across this fuse/relay diagram. https://www.928gt.com/t-8586fuse.aspx
Looks like I'm missing relays for the hvac blower, horn, rad fan, fuel pump, reverse lights, and headlights.

I would be hesitant to install those missing relays until you track down the possible cause of the burning wiring on the Panel Connector.

I am sure some of the guys will post exactly what those wires are for, sorry I just don't quite have the brain capacity any more to spit that info off the top of my head.

Hope that helps,

Dave

You will want to also pull the CE to find out if any of the wires in the back are burnt. Speaking from experience don't add power until you figure out what happened I lost a CE panel and wireharness due to impatience.

I'll add pulling that to my list of things to do.

I'm hoping I can get the car running and driving this summer, so that might be in the realm of possibility.

Looking good so far - just proceed slowly and methodically...

not it sure when I will get back down to Columbia but I will gladly invite myself over when I do!

Even if the car can't make it, you can. You're part of the family now, no matter what you show up driving!

So checked some more into that wiring. The wire that looked burnt actually looks like someone spliced in a piece of wire for some reason. Still not sure what that other wire on that same connector that's cut is.

Now on the back side there is one wire that looks like it has damaged/melted insulation. The weird thing is that it's connected to a blank fuse. It's in slot number 9 which unused according to the diagram in the car, but online I see it could be for a built in phone. There is a fuse in that spot, but only that 1 wire connected to it, so I'm a bit baffled there.

The other end of that wire connects to the purple connector below the relays.

Subscribed. I'll add my welcome and endorsement that you're in the right place, minor dyspeptic ball-busting at the jump notwithstanding.

Your handle, captainOCD, is just too perfect for the project you've taken on. Have fun.
