The car is scheduled for tomorrow to get the e-brake shoes and springs done by my indy. The estimate was a tick over $300. So, about two hours labor, plus parts. I wish I had time to do it myself, but it's not going to happen if I'm going to make Hershey.

So, I didn't have time to finish up the washer tank. But I had to get it all buttoned up enough to take to my mechanic. I traced the line from the charcoal canister and found that the long single line goes into the intake. Therefore, that is the 'out' side and the double-into-single line is the 'in' side. I cut the frayed ends off the hoses and zip-tied them to the canister. The PET called for hose clamps, but I didn't have any that fit. They were previously just held on with friction, so even the zip-ties are an improvement. I'll put hose clamps on when I get back in there to finish the washer tank.

I also JB Welded a bolt to the fender wall next to the bolt that broke off. Hopefully it will have set enough by tomorrow morning to take re-attaching the strap and the cover. Otherwise, I can make the five-mile drive to my mechanic without the cover on, and put it into place after I get back from the brake work.

JB Weld didn't hold that bolt. I'll try again when I get it back. Probably needs more cure time.

On the plus side: The dash came back to life. Even the fuel gauge!

Cheap GPS speedo from eBay I put in when I had the pod out a couple years ago rather than troubleshoot mine. Fits good, works good. It usually boots up in less than a minute. The antenna is tiny and sits on the dash in front of the pod. The only real problem with it is that it's meant for standalone application, so it has its own dome, which didn't lend itself to easy removal. So, I installed it with the dome on, which gives odd reflections sometimes. The other thing with it is that the hash marks are in 4mph increments, with index marks every 20mph. So, sometimes you're kind of guestimating your speed a little.

Just heard back from my indy: The e-brake job is complete and apparently was WAY overdue. He said that when they pulled out the old shoes they literally fell apart onto the floor of the shop. I may have been just a few miles from having the same problem as Chris.

whew!

Thanks for posting your saga, Chris. I've said it before and I'll say it again: This forum is the only reason I am able to own a running 928!

This morning the car was shifting oddly. I took a look under and, yup: a puddle of ATF. While everyone else went to Hershey, I found an Autozone and made myself a nuisance. I get the car up on a pair of ramps and a curb and found the hose had split just past the hard pipe. I scabbed a new piece in, topped of with a quart of ATF and got to the swap meet an hour and a half late.

Just to finish up on the saga so far: Absolutely no further issues with the transmission cooler lines after the side-of-the-road repair on Saturday morning. The car ran great the rest of the day, and on Sunday Trin and I rolled out early for a two hour drive to TCNJ for a college tour. Getting back into the car after the tour, the battery was dead. I'd turned on the driving lights when going through a construction zone (mandatory headlight use), and forgot to turn them off. Luckily my wife had driven down in the Jeep to meet us, so I jumped the car under the hood. No further problems on the drive home (another 2+ hours), other than the radio is now acting squirrely. Luckily, I like the sound of the motor, so I didn't feel like I was missing out on too much.

And the A/C is still blowing cold!

I drove the car straight to a friend's house for storage out of the flood zone while I'm on orders to Ft Sill until late July. All my Porsches are there, joining his two 944s. The guy is basically his own Cars & Coffee at this point.

And that was it. Not as momentous or as 928 heavy as Frenzy, or as liquored up, but man it's great to see you folks!

Parking in the concours area was fun. Obviously Stitch wasn't the Belle of the Ball, but he got his share of consideration by passers-by.

As I said, I'll be home at the end of July. I started working on the washer tank and pumps, so I need to get back to that. I also need to find time to get up to see Matt and grab one of his good transmission to replace mine. Once that's done, and I figure out the high beams, I think I might actually be able to pass PA inspection!

I'm also looking around for a Tiptronic Boxster for my younger daughter while I'm down here. Not just because she wants it, but because I don't want have to spend three embarrassing months driving the Kia Rio rental that the Army got me. I'm a Warrant Officer, dammit! I've got standards!

Further updates as events warrant...

My turn...

Having now a REALLY nice 928, I feel that much of the time if I go to do something, all I can do is leave a new mark, or a slightly new bad thing,

Today was fuel door.

The spring for it is rusted bad and its rubber sleeve is shot, it makes you wince to see it, esp on a new paint job, new flap, and 1 week old factory locking gas cap (I got free..another story..)

The tiny split pin that holds the spring rod..goes thru 2 small tabs...one broke while drifting it out.

Now I gotta get another door, have it painted...$20 job, now $250.

So, here's an update: I found a Boxster in Tulsa for Trinity. And, as I am wont to do, I have already enhanced the exterior with decals. I'll be doing the CV boots this coming weekend and it's going to need a rear main seal when I get home. And, since I have to drop the transmission, I might as well take care of the IMS.

Trin is planning on driving it down to Frenzy.

Okay... Well, I'm back from Oklahoma and I've repatriated all my cars from my buddy's place.

Now that Frenzy is getting close, Stitch has decided he wants his fair share of the attention, and has shut down his HVAC controls. I'm getting nothing at any speed, including the defrost setting.

So the troubleshooting begins...

I've already checked fuses and swapped with the horn relay; no joy. I can live without A/C, but not having defrost is a problem. The instruments are also intermittent, and the last time I checked the mirrors weren't working either.

And I still have to do a suspension refresh on the yellow Boxster.

But at least the transmission cooling line fix is holding!

I drove Stitch in to work today: 9 miles along surface streets. He ran just fine. Mirrors and HVAC still not working, instrument cluster is working.

I don't hear the compressor clutch engaging when I turn on the HVAC, so I think it's some problem with the head, rather than with the blower or resistor. I hate electrical problems.
