Default Cassette Box Variations

I am having a difficult time aligning the cassette box I got for my 1980 US A/T. Below is a picture of the "new" cassette box (Brown), the old box (blue). The front edge does not match. The next two pictures show the difference in the fit to the center console. The brown box leaves a gap. The last picture shows the part numbers, which match . The blue box looks to align correctly. I have looked at a lot pictures, and have not seen a gap between the cassette box and center console. Why would this box leave a gap? What do I need for a proper fit?

+1.

The cassette box is made of three different parts.
The lid, the container insert and the lower part.

Probably someone put the 928 insert in a 944 lower part.

BTW, the container insert part # that we see was replaced by 928 555 701 05 if I recall correctly.

I did not realize those were separate parts, but the part number makes sense now. I’d say it is from a 944. Thanks.
