Default POSTING SPECIFICALLY FOR THE 928

Hello good people.
I am new. Just purchased a 1985/86 928 non-runner and I am dying to get started bringing her BACK to life.
Where is the area for 928's? I searched some thru the forum options and didnt see catagory? Did I miss it?

Default 928-S ~ BACK FROM THE NEAR-DEAD?

Hello All.

New here. Had been away from cars and machines for a while living here in NYC. Recently, am reviving a 1990 XJS Convertible and a 2002 XK8 convertible, brought back from the NEAR dead. Never ends. I'm pleased. The list of repairs, whats been restored and replaced on both are long, so I won't bore ya,,, OR,,, offend you Porsche lovers with Jaguar details haha. I DON'T know the culture, yet, so I'll watch my tongue, lol. I say all that to say, I have some skills/capacity and am hoping for some guidance on this project.

The same friend who basically GAVE me the 2 Jags (loooong story) offered me a non-running 1985/86 928S. 54K. A beautiful dark blue, blue interior. Paint is in great shape. Not a crack in the leather seats or on the dash. Everything's in working order as far as controls and such so far.

The car was hit (minor/major) from behind - pass rear quarter. Much of that damage has been roughly tended to but needs quite a bit more cosmetic attention. Needs rear lights and touching up.

I got in her the other day, strong battery, and turned her over. Smooooth spin, easy turning... Owner told me that she WAS running (well!) when he parked her. That he HAD coming out every so often to start her up, and about a 2yrs ago, went to start her, and no GO. Since that time she has sat. No love no attention.

What I've done so far (not much):
--- Pulled plug and coil wires, NO SPARK. ZERO. So, I basically stopped right there. Nothing that I have done seems to change this. Any ideas? Leads? Suggestions?
--- I have pulled and cleaned a good number of the relays the best I can. I will go back to that.
--- I plan on getting new temp sensors coolant and air.
--- Pulled the glove box and alarm module. Bridged the 87 and 15 leads on the alarm system to deactivate. Figured with the ONE key and what I've heard already about 928 alarms, it might be best. Is that all that needs to be done to kill alarm?

I am super cool with taking this one thing at a time, step by step.... Open to ALL advice, suggestions and leads. Just throw them out there.

Thank YOU ALL so much, in advance. Dont hate me for the Jaguars. Its just something that kinda, happened, lol

Welcome to the tank. Read the New Visitor sticky and get with Roger at 928rus for the Jim Morehouse CD which has the workshop manuals and such. No spark could be the crank position sensor's crumbling connector under the intake.

Hi Jay,

Welcome to the original "Shark Tank", you sound like a real car guy and will fit right in, so no worries. And, don't worry about the Jag stuff, there are more Jag owners here than you might think.

As a general rule I have found the 928 crowd to be more Car Guys in the true sense of the word than the typical stereotypical Porsche owners, and we just appreciate great cars period.

OH, very important, if you can swing it please come to Sharks in the Mountains this coming June, there will be lots of 928ers coming down from your area. I promise you that you will never find a better group of 928 owners that are not only a literal fountain of gladly shared information, but some of the best people you could ever spend the weekend hanging out with.... you have my word on that or your money back....wait, never mind, for the past 21 years our 928 has always been FREE...ha, ha.

There are already threads here discussing meeting up along the way.

Main event discussion here : https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-3-2018-a.html

If you need more help with relays and such feel free to check my website out (http://www.928gt.com) and look for the "Fuse and Relay Chart" by year model in the main menu on the left side.

Have a great day,

Dave

Yes. Click on forums. It's under the 'watercooled' section.

If you post a "hello I'm new" thread (which is always a welcome thing), make sure you post at least one pic.

I'm also a serious Jag guy and also in NYC, Staten Island to be precise..
I own a 928 S2 / 5 speed. No 928 pics yet... its lime green and needs a color change back to it's original red.
It well be brought out of long slumber soon and will get some S3 upgrades... but I've got a Jag V12 / 6 speed project to finish first.

Good Morning EVERYONE!

Thank ya thank ya. I'm stoked!
I guess I better get my move on! I'm not going be pulling into a 928 Sharks thing in the Mountains - in a Jaguar XK8, lol... I might not make it out O the woods,,, never to be seen again haha
And, ICSAmerica - I've seen you already, here! I am also on Staten Island! I was going to reachout to you, knew I sould, but paused. Your Jag project - AWESOME! I hope we can connect.
I'll be checking in with Roger at 928rus for the Jim Morehouse CD - ASAP... Thanks for that.
I also have some questions (I'm not from NY) about re-classifying something that was deemed a salvage or parts car - BACK to a road ready car. I understand this guy bought this car under a classification that needs to be addressed. (If that makes any sense?)

-- I've ordered the CPS and will get on it.
-- I read somthing about a "Hall" sensor?
-- Also,,, if someone can can tell me a little bit about the EKZ? And, is it something I should be thinking about, now?
-- Hate to even ask BUT - how important are "ground points" right now?
-- Open to all POINTERS, DIRECTIONS and SUGGESTIONS....

I got a ways to go. Pictures will be forthcoming!
Much appreciation!

You should clean ignition ground points along with replacing negative battery strap because it may look good but probably corroded under sheath. I am not sure about an 86.5 but there should be an ignition ground point near the CPS. Check the coil ground straps and the large ground strap under car on passenger side.

In this modern age there is no excuse for pic delays...plus we like seeing the ugly before the pretty. It shows all the hard work you have done (and will be doing) .

Cheers,

Dave

Got Ya DR... I got ya - but I'm not at the car right now, lol... Soon enough. I'm a little nervous. Yes, she's been sitting a while. ------ Im lookin at and older XKR now. She needs LOTSSSS of attention. Mostly body stuff....

Ok Taguid - many thanks... So, that second picture (forgive me,,, still getting familiar), but am I looking at the back/aft side of the valley, main breather intake - AND,,, is that the CPS, line and sesor cap? All near this grounding point? Kinda tight in there, huh?

AND --- is it an 85 or an 86? I have heard people say it would be considered an 86 if VIN reads after 6/85... This is 8/85... Just wondering about parts and such. Also,,, can I read the paint information from this?

Again not really sure exactly where the ground points are for your year but yes the CPS is all the way to the rear.
