Matt, Ed, and others who have seen the kiln red in person, would this new color from Mazda be close to the kiln red but with a little more brilliance?

Kiln red looks like a cup of silver orange pearl dropped into a bucket of guards red

"Carmine Red" appears to be a cross between colors mentioned above ^^: Would advise to view "Carmine Red" at a dealers showroom near you before pulling the trigger...looks great live.02 burnout:T

Hoi - no; that's more like a wine red, or ruby red, arena red. Not close to the kiln red. Pretty color, but I'd take kiln first, then coral second (see George M's car for coral). I'd take garnet red over the one you show, as garnet has a bit more brown in it in certain light.

Keith's '82 was indeed weinrot.
There are several really distinctive reds (IMHO) that these cars love. Kiln red is certainly one of them. Trying to remember the color name for the car Cowboy Dan had for a while, the ex Mark White car. Somebody remembers the name. My memory is that there were very few cars in that color from the factory, and it was stunning. Help an old guy remember....

The one with the iconic pic with horns mounted on the hood and "unmentionables" hanging from the horns.

At the OCIC event in Texas, the zyc car was a serious standout among a large group of outstanding 928's on display. It was stunning, and I'm not particularly a red car enthusiast.

Hoi
If the car is still at GB's and ( I agree with klin red) send it over to Jesse to have him paint it. IMO he does a great job and because he paints so many 928's he knows exactly how to take them apart and put them back together. No guess work. He isn't the quickest, I think it took about 6 months for him to paint my car. His price is reasonable as well.

Kiln red....after seeekng Matt’s car no comparison. The only other orange I would consider is Zanzibar (pearl orange) available for 996’s ‘01-03. That’s a little less ‘brick’ orange and more ‘bright’ orange. Could always go continental orange as well BTW, but given the GB stroker may want to be a bit more subtle?

Here's an honest color shot of the garnet red (jeez I miss this car):
