I didn't like the idea of spacers between the pickup and the block (more failure points, any leak in the suction pickup will suck air and end or reduce the oil flow, or entrain air bubbles into the oil).
So that's what we didn't go the spacer route.
We take the stock oil pickup, section it, add a slip-collar of the right diameter, and TIG-weld it back together. That's how we lengthen them.
Worth noting: I do not know the thickness of Greg's oil Pan Spacer. Ours is a full 3/8". Where this becomes important is if you were to use our 3/8" extended oil pickup with a shorter spacer, it might not work. I recommend you get the extended oil pickup that matches the length of the oil pan spacer.

My pan spacer is also 3/8", so my pickup spacers are also 3/8".
The spacers are sandwiched between the pick-up and the block...in the same mounting holes as stock. The odds of them coming loose are exactly the same as the stock pick-up coming loose....the hardware needs to fall out. I've never seen this happen, on a stock pick-up.
In terms of leakage, the only leakage on a pick-up system that I've seen has been using an "aftermarket" pick'up seal, which is why I furnish a factory pick-up seal, with my pieces.
Serious question....not trying to create anything...purely interested in what you think:
Porsche made that large "cup" just above the screen, for some reason. On an "early" oil pick-up system, this same "cup" isn't on the pick-up, but is on the bottom plastic "cloverleaf" piece.
I've always thought that the tall "cup" acts as an anti-slosh device, placed in the middle of that large reservior. The tall walls "block" oil from sloshing all they way from side to side or front to back of the oil pan.
I do suspect that it's not there because they had some "extra" plastic (early) or steel (late) sitting around and decided to add that "cup", but it serves some sort of function.
Since you radically modify (shorten) those walls to do your pick-up modification, you obviously gave this some thought. What do you think the function of that added height was....and what is changed when you remove it?
Everything assembled to start the build. Gary will balance the assembly, pressure plate, flywheel and super damper. And he will be milling the groove in the 2-6 bearing, too!
