Default Arizona road trip with the stroker

This Friday is my first big road trip with the stroker. Oakland to Tucson and then taking the long way back thru Death Valley. Other than trips to Anaheim this will be the first major outing. I'm guessing that there well be a few open stretches along the way.

Crowded drive through Cali, or cruise across past Reno and grab 95 south? Lots of open stretches that way in through Nevada to stretch your legs. Plus easy access to Death Valley from that side.

To get there the plan is to just go down 5 and across thru Bakersfield then over to 40 passing the Bagdad Cafe stopping in Lake Havasu. Big snow in the Sierras this week so going thru Reno on the way down doesn't look so good. Coming back Death Valley is a must, hoping it the flowers will be in bloom. Great photo ops. Gas mileage will be interesting. The 30# injectors are thirsty little suckers.

if your route to death valley takes you into CA via the 10/15/395 highways, i live near the 10/15 interchange and have wrenches, hammers and beer if a road-side fix is needed.

^^^Hit Mt Lemmon on Sun while 87 year young Dad's in town. Temps were 64 at the base and 37 up top with a bit of snow (9,157') Let's set up a day to caravan up with Miktbte^^, Van and anyone else in the area who would like to jump in. Look forward to seeing the stroker (and Van of course) while in town. T

Consumption is related to the pressure on the tall skinny pedal. Many owners report better mileage in their well-tuned strokers than before. Digi-dash cars calculate displayed mileage based on speed and duty-cycle on the injectors, so report optimistic numbers with the larger injectors installed. So reported consumption may not be exactly accurate. Trust the gas gauge.

Without having the snow report handy, 58 across near Bakersfield passes Lake Isabella. Is that the route you are looking at? It's a pretty good ride down towards Mojave, then flattens out on the way towards Barstow to pick up 40 east and the turn south towards Lake Havasu. Should be an awesome ride this time of the year.

Tony --

Fill your pockets with that snow now. In a month or maybe two, you will really need it.

Great time, if you can come down 93 east of Kingman threw Joshua Tree National Forest, that is a nice road to cruise.

I won't be able to make the ride, unless my current project can get wrapped up.

Stepped off a plane in Phoenix a few years back and said to a friend: feels cooler here than where I just left....Corpus Christi, TX. He asked me if I was nuts and stated it was the hottest day of the year (122). It actually felt cooler that TX with there high humidity levels. Mikebte..you can ride with me in the ***-dragger if you like. T

T,
I think your friend was asking a rhetorical question. If he knows you well, he knows you are nuts. By answering him, you only confirmed his suspicions.
Enjoy your time with your dad while you can.

If your heading south out of Lake Havasu, take Rt 95 thru Parker and down to Rt 10 east towards Phoenix. Don't go thru Phoenix ! You wont be happy with the traffic thru mid city. Before you get into Phoenix, get off Rt10 at Buckeye onto Rt 85. It goes south to Rt 8. Bypasses Phoenix. Take Rt 8 east to Rt 10 into Tucson. I live about 5 miles north of the intersection of Rt 8 & Rt 10. Some really nice stretches of road.

Corpus Christi is a sauna. In my deep dark past, as a teen, I relocated from the northeast to SoCal to get away from the summer heat and humidity. Cold weather I have no problems with. As luck would have it, my current projects seem to be primarily in the hot-and-humid areas. Texas shortly, hopefully while it's not quite summer yet, and the mid-Atlantic sections of the east coast that I left almost 50 years ago. A couple Arizona projects were thankfully done by April/May those years, when it was "only" 110º in the afternoons. It was a dry heat after all, well before the late-summer monsoon season. For those playing along at home, "monsoon" conditions there have humidity above about 15%, the point beyond which it is no longer a "dry heat". It feels like about a 20º change in comfort temp. Some may scoff at 20% RH being muggy, but that's what happens.
