This is what we have over here in Europe, Toyo 255/50 ZR16.

You calling my S4 a Camaro??

We've never met but after seeing this I believe you may be sporting a mullet!

First time I have seen a S4 with the phone dials, I like it. I was thinking about what these might look like on a S4. Did you get them widened, if so who did it? Looks great even all jacked up in the rear haha.

They came with my 79. I was actually trying to buy just the wheels 15 years ago and ended up with the whole car. They've been in storage until about a year ago because of the odd size, there hasn't been a decent tire to use until these BFGoodrich TA's came out in that size. Not perfect, but close enough and I got to finally use these wheels!
There's a 1.5" bolt on spacer in the rear, room for a 2".

Twin Turbo Todd made them back in the early 90's. He used 8 wheels, cut them all in half, created a tongue / groove in each donor half & welded them together.

I wish someone would have saved the leftover pieces.

245's on the front.

This was my experience, for all tires of that size. First time I needed them there were none on Tire Rack. The next time, there were tires from three (!) manufacturers including Bridgestone, which is what I wanted - both to match the front tires and because of recommendations I'd seen here. I hit the buy button even though I'd just retired the car for winter.

OK, here's an idea for all us Americans.

We know that tires are available in Europe:
https://www.reifendirekt.de/cgi-bin/...0&KBA_a=416570

Reifendirekt.de even has a US company called:
https://www.tires-easy.com/

However, Tire Easy will not help me to import these tires or even acknowledge to me that they exist. Why don't we created a list of Rennlisters and we bombard these guys with request emails for a while...

I would love to get a set of Continentals in the right size.

I have sent an email to Porsche Classic, Germany, as to whether they can convince Continental to make those tires available in the US or have Porsche Classic make them available.

we'll see..

The Toyo T1R is a good choice in 225/50 and 245/45. I have been running them for years.

Heard back from PCA NA who said contact local dealer for potential of availability of Continental Sport Contact tires for 928 S4 and GT from Germany.

Went to Porsche Norwell today and asked Parts Manager if they could get Continental tires for specifically 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 from Europe. He said they have a close working relationship with TireRack and he would discuss if they would be able to import those sizes from Germany.

I told him, if they could , there are quite a few 928 owners who would be willing to buy if the pricing didn't get crazy.

let's see!

Other Porsche's of the time (930's) used the same size. There's a market, albeit small. Places like Tire Rack track requests I'm sure and work with the manufacturers when they reach some critical mass. Question may be whether any reseller is willing to fraction the market to include Bridgestone, Toyo and then add Continental to the list.

BFG TA's were the original fitment tires on my car. Hard as a rock. Rode hard but lasted a long time (25k+) before 17" wheels with Pilots replaced them. I still have those original tires mounted on the original rims in storage. They are probably suitable for holding the car off the floor but not suitable for driving. I might be tempted to put a new set on the wheels for local driving and display.

Tire Rack maybe the wrong retailer. I would consider Coker. They specialize in odd tires for vintage cars and we do fall into this list.

Coker manufacturers discontinued vintage tires they've purchased the rights to produce. Many with the original molds.

The Continentals in question are a new tire manufactured by Continental, just not imported to the US.

I'm running the Sport Comp 2, a relatively new model designed for the retro-rod market. Cars with increased handing & braking capabilities still using "old" tire sizes.

Their KDW2 was an excellent tire (used by George in open road racing) sadly discontinued.
A very unique tread pattern I wanted on my Replica Cobra.

Just got feedback from Porsche, Norwell, MA on Conti 245/45/16 tire availability in states. Seems that availability of that size is not always available in Europe, so they have decided at the present not to import that size.

We'll see if there is any additional follow up from TR.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good Morning Bob,
I reached out to tire rack about the tires you and a few other owners were looking for, and the attached e-mail is the response we have gotten from their conti rep.
I did mention that they were available in Europe and he said that availability of the rears is the same over there.
As soon as I have more info for you guys I will let you know!

Thanks

Hey,
Conti has supply of the fronts, but the rears are less certain. This probably explains why we have not taken them in previously as the fronts would not be much use without the matching rear.
Our rep is checking and will update me asap.

That's disappointing, good work digging up the information though.
