Default CE connector plugs info request (83 car)

Does anyone know where to find detailed information on the CE connector plugs on the CE panel? It’s currently mysterious to me and I’m trying to troubleshoot an electrical gremlin.

Many thanks

The plugs are as follows from left to right:

A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, Y, Z, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X (there's no I and for some reason Y and Z are in the middle).

The link below shows the numbering of the pins in each connector:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...numbering.html

If you pull the connectors, the pins are labeled on the plug side.

The wiring diagram shows the pin numbers for each connection.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your reply mkriete. That is helpful. I’m curious as to which pins are connected to what. Which wiring diagram do you mean?

These ones?

For example in these diagrams, for the hazard swich, does the numbers with ‘E’ above them refer to the ‘E’ plug?

There must be a chart with this kind of information on the way we have charts with fuses and relay info.

(FWIW, I’m having a problem with my turn signals and hazards)

Any help, much appreciated

That is correct. “E1” is Connector E pin 1.

Alan Moore was/is working on a wiring primer (I’m not certain the status). If you search 928 electrics, you’ll find the introduction to the document. It has some great information on the wiring basics.

I have a page for my ‘80 that shows the fuses, relays, connector numbers, and pins that has Alan’s copyright. I’m not certain how to find these summary pages, but it is a handy and quick resource.

You have the great fortune to have a 928 with pretty sad wiring diagrams. Good news is that the 1982 and 1984 diagrams are better and the cars are very close. The earlier diagram set has a sheet that has relays, fuses and the external connections, each with connection references. I'd start with that.

Are you chasing a specific issue or circuit?

Thanks for your reply. My flasher relay blew and I wanted to make sure that there was no burning to the related circuitry. Looks like I got lucky as everything behind and around the CE panel appears fine and works.

I must have grounded something hot when I was futzing with the pod and combo switch though I’m not sure what. Battery was disconnected, when I reconnected it, boom. The only thing that was a little off was the combo switch wasn’t perfectly seated. Would that cause this? Surely not. Everything seems okay now.

Did you pry the flasher out with a metal tool? Next is plugging it in with the turn signal lever lever towards one side. But putting it in with the battery disconnected rules that out. Was it going in in the right orientation that first time?

Sorry if this is a obvious question, do you have the correct fuse on the circuit? It sure seems like it should have blown before the relay.

Thanks for the replies guys

I didn’t mess with the flasher relay. I unplugged the combo switch (and jimmied the pod around a little) when I buttoned it all back together and reconnected the battery, the flasher relay burned up. I guess a hot wire touched the aluminum pod housing (maybe) but I don’t see how it did. Will investigate.

I don’t believe there’s a fuse for the hazards. There’s not one listed in the manual (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). I’m thinking about putting an inline one in though.
