Buying a 928

I understand why the 80-84 US are least popular, but here's my .02 since owning an 82 for a while now. I love the fact that it takes 87 octane. I love the idea of a non-interfence engine. (peace of mind). I love the fact that it still looks as a cool a 78-86.5. I love the fact that I still get people walking up to me admiring the car. Finally, it still has plenty of torque for solid, enjoyable freeway driving. As linderpat suggested, i wouldn't spend more than $500 based on your description. One alternative is make it a track/de car since the interior is shot any way.
Good luck!
