While building my hybrid build, I got a wonderful pan spacer and windage tray kit from Greg. He also sent me this tube of black Benz sealant for gluing the spacer to the block..... well..... I had a laps of ADHD and not only glued the spacer to the block, but the pan to the spacer... so no gasket. According to Greg "you will need a hammer and chisel to get the off. Along with the chunks of block.... lol"

Pardon the obvious question but why not leave it "as is" and worry about removal at some stage in the future after you have got your money's worth out of the motor? If the stuff is good enough to seal the spacer then surely it is good enough to seal the pan. Given my sump bolts seem to be able to undo themselves in a year or so maybe your WTF moment is unwittingly a pre-cursor to a good long term solution to sealing the sump once and for all!

Oh it's a future worry. Motor has lots of life! And yes! No leaking gasket! Ever.... lol

Was changing the oil on my wife's 4Runner for the first time after we aquired it from her dad. Slid under the car, found the drain plug and slid my drain pan underneath. After it was finished draining I look in the pan to inspect the condition of the oil. Hmmm odd color oil. Wonder what brand my father in law used that is red? Ughh.

The Forgotten On

ATF is 10 weight so I'm sure the engine is alright, if not squeaky clean inside due to ATF's tendency to dissolve and remove gunk.

My current biggest screw up was installing a rear PCB for my 81's gauge cluster and not realizing a mounting tab had broken and not allowed the connections to seat correctly.

I watched $350 worth of PCB go up in smoke in 3 seconds.

Oh...I see how you came to that assumption based on my sort of ambiguous description. The reason it was red was not because my father-in-law filled it up with ATF. The reason was because I thought the tranny drain plug was the oil drain.

FIFY. Jake, be sure to warn the kids before you decide to pull the pan. Guessing the engine will be in the stand for that.

Once about 3 years ago, I pulled my engine due to a simple cam tower oil leak. No, not a leak, an exsanguination. Along the way, my alter-ego, CAPTAIN OCD discovered lots of exciting shiny problems. I have a really nice 928 now... In about 36 boxes in the garage.

My son and I were working on the Schwartz car back in 2001 (prior to my knowledge of Rennlist) and among other things, he wanted to change the color from Quartzplatinum metallic to red (hence the Rennlist name) We were prepping the car for paint and had removed the cowling and was continuing to sand as well as work on the mechanical part of the car. We needed to start the engine and I was afraid it would run out of fuel. We live close to a gas station and my son volunteered to drive the car up to refuel. As he started to pull out of the driveway, he could not see well through all the sanding dust on the windshield, so I told him to wait while I washed it off with a garden hose. He got about 100 yards out of the driveway and the car died. I walked down to see the problem and as he turned the key a wisp of smoke came from the LH/EZF computers not unlike a cartoon scene. Water from the hose had dripped onto and into the computer effectively killing the computers
The car got painted black, BTW.

Fell asleep while doing rod bearings. Woke up covered in oil and sat straight up, slamming my head into a counterweight.

I had my car up on the lift and I had removed the exhaust and heat shields to find a transmission leak. I found the leak and fixed it, pretty excited to try it out since I had been fighting this leak for a long time. So I hustle to get the exhaust back on, meanwhile stepping over some annoying stuff on the ground. I get the exhaust all buttoned up and go to lower the car but hey, there sits the heat shields I forgot to put on. So off comes the exhaust and shields go on.

DOH! At least I had the lift to make my stupidity less painful.
