dash (and carpet) restoration recommendations?
Hey guys. It's time to give my 87 924 some cosmetic attention. I had the dash pad repaired about 8 years ago, but the repair disintegrated. I'm going to do what I should have done back then which is completely recxover it. I've seem a site that does leather, vinyl or even some kind of alacantra/suede, which since I have a part suede momo steering wheel might be interesting. the interior is maroon and linen (seats and carpets). The original was vinyl and I'm wondering if leather is better. I redid my lincoln dash in leather and it looks great.
any suggestions as to material and vendor? I've seen some kits which I think just get wrapped/glued to the existing dash pad. My pad has alot of cracks and worse because of the failed fix, so I'm thinking the material has to be pretty thick to hide the cracks and differences of the surfaces.
may even redo the carpeting (seats were done last time around). My white linen carpet sort of fluffy, is there a more modern solution?

Rob Budd at http://www.classic9leathershop.com/ is the go-to guy. Not cheap, but I'm sure this is just the first of many recommendations for him that you'll see. I got my carpet kit from him, and he redid the leather on my glovebox. The glovebox is now the nicest bit in my interior and is out of place lol. I need to either have him do my dash, or order the dash kit and have a local upholstery guy do it. One of these days. The issue for my on big pieces like that is having to ship your dash to and from. That adds quite a bit of cost and headache, which is why I might go with a local guy to do the work. There is definitely craftsmanship involved, and I don't trust myself not to screw it up.

Understood thanks. Robert sells the cover I'll shoot him a message and see what the current cost is.

thanks, sending the dash in isn't an option in since I don't have garage space to keep the car dissembled. I'm going to get a guy to pull the dash cover, recover it with some kit and put it back together all in a day or two.
please post info on the kit. I've seen one for alittle under 400 I think.

I'm pulling the dash out of my 81 at the moment. Most likely I will buy a Budd cover and take it to my local upholstery shop. Pulling the dash is not that difficult if you take the seats out and be mindful of what you are doing. I must admit the first time it was really intimidating but the second and 3rd it's really easy and straight forward. 928's are nut and bolt cars, no one way clips and once you have the pod off then the center console there are only 4 bolts holding the dash in. This gives you chance to clean everything replace the filters and the pride of doing it yourself. Budd has a write up on "how to". Whatever you do don't put a cover on it without taking the dash out. Massive waste of time and it won't look right and you won't like it.
