Default Wobbly Rear View Mirror Fix?

Is there a generally accepted fix for this? The problem is the mounting point between the button on the windshield and the mount on the mirror stalk - too much slop.

The two ball swivels on the mirror stalk itself are very tight.

The picture makes it look like the wrong button or a part of the mirror base is missing. Looks like a pretty big gap between the two parts.

Randy when the mirror snaps into the "button" mount that is glued to the windshield does it go completely down?
There is a notch that it clips into, I'm always afraid of breaking the glass when I tap them down and in.

If it does go all the way down maybe a plastic shim could stiffen up the gap?

Hi Randy,

Hope you are doing Great! Please try to make it to SITM this year, it is going to be 928 Specialists 20th Year Anniversary Party!

Anyway, I advise you from past experience, Order a NEW one from someone and move on. I have personally popped off at least 2-3 of the mount bases and adding more hours (and a day for full cure) to remount the base, all due to trying to adjust and/or tweak a worn mirror to fit poperly..heard it many times from others including a few cracked windshields.

Order a new one and get back to the PARTY of Life!

See ya,

Dave

Don't think that is the correct mounting button. Should be round our round-ish. I cannot quite remember, but I think there is a stamped sheet metal part that goes over or around the slug.

That's what I was wondering - is it missing a shim?

Speaking of shims - there's Sterling. He's the S in LGBTQS.

Yeah but you are looking for a plastic shim so you should get an attorney.

I don't know if I should resent or resemble that remark.

Randy, now might be a good time to convert your inside Rear View Mirror to one from a Boxster since those have a much better shape for the view out the hatch window and they mount differently. They are usually available on eBay for about $35 to $50, but be sure to get one with the base in it to attach to your windshield. I would take it to the Auto Glass shop to have them remove and attach the base.

to remove the base on your windshield,
you need a lighter and screwdriver that fits snug into the base opening.

Heat the button for about 20 to 30 seconds,
put the screwdriver into the slot then twist it.

NOTE dont pry up or down ,
twist only.
the base will come free.

Then take a fresh razor balde and clean the glue off the glass
