Default front sway bar

for my rally 928 i'm looking for a "light" front sway bar .
I'm i correct that the first ( 78/79 ? ) 928's had a lighter front sway bar than the later 80's 4.7l S types ?

thanks for info !

PS i see Rose Passion ( parts dealer here in Europe ) sells for all years the same #... so i assume they only make one type anymore, the later heavyer one i'm afraid.

The S4/GTS run with a 28mm bar. The early year models had a 26mm bar - no idea what year they transitioned to 28mm.

For your purposes you can also try to stiffen up the rear bar some like with the Louie adjustable rear links. I think someone was going to manufacture them once more but...?

thanks Fred , but i thought the early cars ( 78/79) had a lighter bar then 26 mm ??
I see indeed a different # for the 16V versus the 32V. That will be 26 and 28 mm .

Barry,

My knowledge of pre S4 models is very limited. I know about the 26mm bar simply because Powerflex make bushes for them but nothing for a lesser diameter.

Given you likely want to induce oversteer you can also fit wider rubber up front than in the rear in your case- 245 on the fronts [with an 8 inch ET65 rim like the CS] and a 225 on the rear - that might be exciting!!.

i like my street setup with 265's front and rear- it gives a very neutral feel that I can tweak with the rear links and the Devek bar set towards its softest settings

I believe Fred is correct, 26mm for '78/'79 and they made the transition in '80.

correct Fred , oversteer and for rainy conditions we don't want to much sway bar up front. My ex rally BMW i even drove without front sway bar .
I will use 245/45 front and 275/40 rears , 17". Those are exact the same height , so we can carry a "front" spare wheel which can go on all corners.

After studying part numbers I think the change was in 86. So my 84 has the early swaybar and the 86 the later one.
At RosePassion all early swaybars have the same number.
Or the early ones from 79 are exceeded with this one.
Maybe 928 international knows.

The swap happened mid 1980. Details are murky, even from Porsche.

Just get one from any 79 and earlier car and you will be fine.

I believe that the early anti roll bar was unique to the 77-79 models. I had some research done a few months ago when I purchased an early one for my 86 Euro model and that was the conclusion I ended up into.

According to the PET:
928 343 073 05, 26mm for the 1978/1979
928 343 073 06 , 28mm for the later cars
