Edit: I'm going to start a new thread for the Speedo PCB
*******************************************************************
I just pulled the speedo out of my '86.6 gold car I was using for DE's, I'm in the process of repairing the heater core and installing a new interior as the car has been rock solid.
After pulling out the speedo I now find the PCB at the back of it has a burnt resistor (note the speedo did not work).
Has anyone here repaired the PCB or should I just source a use Speedo?
Thank you,
Dave K

If it doesn't work, no harm no foul.
My odometer failing turned out to be the stepper motor failing and needing to be rebuilt (they are NLA).
I had it all done by North Hollywood Speedometer.

The new ones will last for a long, long time.
Call Roger, tell him what you need and it will be to you before you can finish stirring your pudding basin.

When in motion is the Ultimate no-no and it should just be connected to a hammer that comes out and hits you on the head. Sometimes it will work when stopped - that is until it doesn't.

That's only with the old jelly gears, the new one won't have any issue with doing so while rolling.

well I pushed while in motion when it stopped working.., but now I tinkered with it when idling in garage, then drove it and both trip and odo works, lol. I wont be touching it for a while !!

Having had mine apart to replace the gear, I wonder about that.
There really isn't any interaction with that particular gear.
However, the reset is a fairly powerful electromagnet. And the overall "shock" from it triggering is pretty significant.
It may be that the combination of the shock/vibration to the entire unit plus the stress on the gear from it being turned are enough to cause a weak gear to fail.
After replacement, I've reset my trip odo a whole lot of times. I use it to determine fuel consumption, so it gets reset every time I fuel.
Sometimes moving, sometimes still.
No problems so far.
