Help finding history of my new wide body
I'm trying to put together the build history of my new 85 wide body. I want to put together the build cost and what it would cost to build the same car today, so I can insure it properly at an agreed value. Hopefully some of you are familiar with the car and can provide some insight.
From Klaus, the previous owner, the body was hand built in California in 2001. I'd like to find out who did the work.
I believe the supercharged stroker engine was built at the same time at German Auto Art in Santa Monica. I think they are no longer in business. Is anyone familiar with that shop, perhaps knows someone that worked on 928s around that time?
The entire interior was swapped over from a 90 S4, as was the auto transmission.
If this research ends up in all dead ends, perhaps I can get help coming up with the build cost, or replacement cost for this one off vehicle.
Widebody is hand fabricated, not a kit. It was widened 2.5" all around. 911 turbo slant nose headlights with projector bulbs using RX7 motors. GTS mirrors.
Engine is a stock 85 block, now 6.2l stroker, forged crankshaft, forged powder connecting rods, 944 turbo pistons for 8:1 compression, copper headgaskets, vortex SC, water to air intercooler, S4 intake. I guess the easiest way to value this is to price out a 6.2l stroker build and add on a vortec SC setup, give or take.
Any and all help is appreciated.

I've found that the owner during the time was possibly Marcus Hutchinson or Hitchinson, and the engine work was done at German Auto Art, apparently by Marcus, not Markus Herm the shop owner. :-)
Still reading through related threads here on Rennlist. I believe the car was red then, was painted gunmetal grey at some point, perhaps when it was in Maverick Marsalis's possession.

And it was in San Diego. Wow.

Brett - Who did you get the car from? How did they get it?

Previous owner is named Klaus, not sure how/when he bought it. I feel very fortunate to have found it and being able to make a deal for it. I found it using a search all of craigslist website and went through about a hundred ads.

It was in San Diego right? Or am I mistaken?

Thought I remembered that. Should have gone to see it.
Much history with this car in LA. Have you determined the material for the front fenders? What about the rears?
The engine was supposed to be over 20psi capabale on boost. Hence the lower compression. Which were, I am told, 951 pistons.
Can you take some closeups of the front and rear fenders?

I was around the shop during the time and you have just about all the facts right that I recall. The 8.1 compression, the 951 pistons etc. Marcus Hutchinson built the engine and did most of his work at German Auto Art. Markus Herm never really touched the car that much if at all, if he did they were working on it together. I've reached out to Hutchinson and if I get a reply I will pass along his info. I couldn't begin to guess at the value of the car at that time with all the man hours he put it but it was certainly well north of $50k. When he built that engine people here were barely getting into supercharging these engines and Marcus largely stayed out of the endless debates and arguments on that front.

Sadly what was spent on a car has little to do with value simply how much was spent.... You often see custom hotrods being offered for 1/2 or 1/3 of the build cost. The comment of WOW you could not build it for that deserves the response of Perhaps they should not have built it !!

True Jim but for valuation purposes within the insurance perspective it is important to capture the dollars needed to "recreate" what is insured. And that could easily be north of 75k at this point if you include body work and stroker engine + super charger.
