Driving through Tennessee and stumbled on to a gorgeous 85 5 speed…
My wife had been bugging me about going to a resort just outside Knoxville for a while, last February I finally acquiesced and went. Not my speed but whatever. On the way back to the airport, I noticed a bunch of small local mom and pop type of car lots, I saw one that had a bunch of cool hot rods then I spotted a car that was so strange, I told my wife we had to turn around so I could get a better look…
to say this thing gave me a headache would be an understatement. Someone took a fiero and turned into a front engined wannabe corvette?!

I’m practically in a daze walking back to the car then out of the corner of my eye, in the back of the lot, I spotted a 928! Totally out of place among all these American resto mods etc. The place is closed, the sun is going down, I’m a stranger in country car lot not knowing if someone’s gonna come out and shoot me so I decide, why not walk to the back of the lot and take a look. I sneak back to the car, interiors immaculate and lo and behold, it’s a manual! I ran back to the car, didn’t tell my wife what I found and hauled *** to the airport.
I’ve tried making contact with the dealer for the last year to no avail. Last week he finally answered but hung up on me. I tried three more times and gave up. Later that day, I get a call from the owner, he explained he’d been having phone issues. I figured rather than ask about the 928, I’d ask about the fiero/vette instead. He told me about how much money it cost to build etc and that he’d just sold it. I expressed my remorse for missing out on it then asked about “that old Porsche”. He told me the car was a one owner car, owned by movie producer that used it to get back and forth from his home in the mountains to the airport. He purchased it from him a few years ago, drove sparingly till a few months back when the alarm system went nuts and wouldn’t allow him to start it. He tells me “it’s a great car but I can’t deal with that @$#%&! alarm, I want rid of it!”
Price negotiated, wire sent, car picked up! 13 months later, the car will be here this week! I don’t know how these damn cars keep finding me!

I'm pretty sure that there are two or three 928's sitting in almost every county in the US...not running.

I wouldn’t be so sure. One of my businesses is next to a metal recycling plant. You wouldn’t believe how many 928’s I saw going to the crusher between 2008 and 2012.
On another note, my BTR finally cleared customs!!!
