Is this a missing speaker control ****?
I guess it should be, on a 79, but I am confused as the button protruding thru the carpet seems to be a spring loaded push button, and I would have guessed if a rotary **** attached that it would be splined which it is not.
I had assumed that it was a remote boot release ( and have been hunting for one), but Mark Anderson tells me this was not a 79 feature.
can anyone solve the mystery?

That looks like the headlight adjuster ****.
Oh, now I get it - - - you are looking for what is not in the picture, not what is, DUH.

But, looking at replacements like this one on ebay US, what is peeking thru the carpet isnt the same as the rotating element pic. What I have seems definitely designed to be pushed.
Is it possible some 79s had a boot release? (mine is very early in the M.Y. though)
Or maybe this was added later. With the spoilers and rubbing strips
Edit: Ducman, yep maybe that is the solution to the mystery

The speaker fader **** was used on early cars to balance the speakers front to rear. So when a "modern" 4 channel head unit was installed there was no need for a fader ****..... So why not undo the fasteners and see what is under there ???
