It's home
The 94 Iris Blau Metallic GTS has been away from home for over 2 years.
Driving experience.
First thing I noticed was the unmistakable smell of leather, it made the statement PORSCHE.
Then as I adjusted the seat, column, and mirrors it was cradling me in comfort.
Made the Cayenne Turbo feel like a bench seat.
Turned the key, it roared to life...GT cams, Devek headers, x-pipe, race cats, resonators, and RMB.
Took it easy heading out of the lot reminiting myself of the 4K rpm limit for 1000 miles.
Took it up thru the gears and easily merged into 5 o'clock traffic. Easy to accelerate and sounds great!
Originally felt 4K limit was going to be easy to keep since I've been driving an SUV. Cayenne, but still and SUV.
But as I got closer to home it just sounds so good taking it up to 4K before shifting. Gonna be a challenge.

His car has been at Dumonts here in Oklahoma City. I believe one of the cam sprockets were cracked or failing. I think Richard got a little case of WYAIT. Richard is a nice guy and his GTS is Beautiful.

Before the OCIC in Wichita KS Sean Ratts put the GT cams in the GTS. The drivers side cam broke where the keyway is on the end of the driver's side cam shaft. Took almost all the valves on that side with it.
The for the next couple of years it burned more and more oil until it got to where it was burning a quart every gas fill. Enough that it was beginning to foul the plugs.
Took it to local indy shop, Dumont's to pull the motor and check to see what was going on. When he got it apart it looked good except there were no oil relief holes drilled in the oil scraper ring groove to let the excess oil to escape from the groove. Looked at a lot of other Porsche pistons he had in the shop and all the other pistons had the oil scraper ring grooves drilled with relief holes. Pistons and cylinders were well within specs so decided to drill the holes and go back with new bearings and rings.
I had refreshed almost everything else in the engine bay when Sean did the valves and cams so the only other WYAIT stuff was a swap on set of new Devek Stage II headers I had found, have a custom x-pipe made for the Devek headers from Louis Ott's plans I got from Jim Coernman. Also did a front seal on the tranny, and the right rear fender liner. Oh yeah, and there were some weird problems with the brains and Shark Turner pems that John rebuilt the brain/pems twice.
They only reason it took so long is Dumont's was in a transition period. Dumont's is a family Porsche only shop. They have been having a some difficult times. The father, Bob retired, and they had a couple of mechanics retire as well. So they have been down to just Mike, the son and one other mechanic running the 4 bay shop. He has tried bringing other mechanics in, but they spend more time on their phones than working and he has to let them go. It has been all they can do to keep up with the daily repair work. And I myself have taken my Cayenne to them for things like a water pump and intake leak while still waiting on the 928. So I am NOT complaining.
I would have offered to go work on it myself, but I am one of those mechanics that breaks 2 things getting to the thing that needs fixed. I can't afford myself just in parts!
So....Have a 94 GTS with fresh 5.4 with new MAF, sensors, Greg Brown baffle, GT cams, Devek Level II headers, Louie Ott X-pipe, race cats, GTS resonators, RMB, Shark Turner, Hypercoil springs, Devek front swaybar, Ott rear drop links, and Carrera III lightweight wheels in Iris Blau Metallic/Classic Gray and 5 speed.

So, what does your buttometer tell you so far. I know you aren't able to go over 4K yet, but do you think. I'm heading down a similar road. I need a full refresh down the road and WYAIT ideas are running through my head. I'm most interested in the GT cams.
Oh yea. Love that Iris blue!

Buttometer says it feels quicker than my 05 Cayenne Turbo even short shifting at 4K. However the buttometer is affected by aural stimulation and with the addition of the Devek headers it does sound more aggressive than the Cayenne.

Glad to see you back on the road with your GTS. You'll love the GT cams. With stock GTS cams they normally go flat at about 4000 and you'll see that with GT cams they come alive at 4000. With the Devek headers, no loss of low end torque either.
