Default 928 window regulator nylon roller dimensions

Hello landsharks,
I've got a 968 with a clunking driver's side window regulator. There is a new roller kit that supposedly fits all 924/944/968, but it doesn't fit what I've got. What these cars usually have is a little ball at the ends of the regulator arms, and a nylon roller just snaps over it. What I've actually got is a roller that is riveted to the arm. While doing some research, I couldn't help noticing that it looks just like what the 928 uses. I was hoping that someone has a window regulator laying around and can take a couple of measurements for me, because the 928 rivet-in style parts are available and if they're the right size, I'm back in business. The three rollers you see in the pic are (top) intact roller that looks a lot like a 928 roller to me. Middle: replacement 924/944/968 style that I'm supposed to have (but don't), these are intended to snap over a ball. Bottom, one of the broken rollers. Another one is cracked, but hasn't come off yet.

My rollers are about 0.692" diameter for the wheel itself with a rim thickness of 0.220" and the overall height is about 0.465. Is this a 928 part?

I'm hoping to be able to use:
928 537 918 00 roller
928 537 917 00 bolt

Thanks for the help,
c

A fresh 928 roller kit is $7. Buy one and see if it fits as many of us don't have good window regulators laying around that aren't already wearing down.

I know that I can buy one and see if it works or not, but since it's not something I can get locally, the idea of ordering one and waiting a week for delivery while my car doesn't have a window in it isn't particularly appealing. Also, I need several, so if it doesn't work I'd either get stuck with multiples of a useless part, or I'd have to add the additional time of getting one, measuring, then getting more. If I can simply find out what size the 928 part is (even if used and worn), I'll be able to figure out if it's workable or not and either get several ordered in one shot, or pursue a different solution without weeks of downtime.

Surely somebody must have one of those repair kits and a pair of calipers....

cheers,
c

I have a couple of window regulators out of the car at home, will grab a measurement for you tonight if no one beats me to it.

That's what I was afraid of, they're quite a bit larger than what I've got, I guess it's going to be a lathe day. Thank you guys very much, this saved me from buying even more parts that I can't use, I already bought 2 sets of the 924/944/968 rollers from Rennbay.

928 rollers would have been a real time saver. I figured that since I already have 1/2 of a 928 engine, getting a few more 928 parts in there couldn't hurt

Truly appreciate the help.

best,
c

If you want to purchase the 928 roller kit I could take a stab at 3D printing a set of nylon rollers that have the same outer dimensions of the 968 roller yet would fit over the 928 kit's rivet pints. You'd have to verify that the 928 kit rivet pins in Sean's photo would fit the end of the 968's regulator arm.

Thanks Nate, but it looks like the pin is larger as well. I spoke to Travis at Rennbay to find out what size ball his rollers are intended for so that I could maybe turn some special rivets with ball-ends on them. Travis had a better idea, he pointed out that ball ends are available for retrofitting gas shocks onto things. He directed me to a set on eBay that looked like it would work and I found the same set cheaper on Amazon:
Amazon Amazon

I only need 6, but they come in sets of 4, so for the first one, I'll turn down the threaded part of the shank and see if I can just press/swage it into the arm. If that doesn't work, I'll tap the arms and either weld or loctite-red them into place.

cheers,
c

That looks like it could work well. Good luck.
