Default 83 Cam Cover Removal

Hi guys,

I have an 83 S that I am trying to remove the head on (to ascertain damage from a dropped valve), I have all the cam cover bolts out and timing belt off, but it wont budge!
Is there any safe way to pry the cover loose?

Thanks
Adam

Have you taken out the bolts hidden by the metal plugs in the cam housing?

Look for more bolts. The force of the springs will lift the cam tower off the head.

Ok, now I feel really stupid!! I counted the number of bolts removed against what should be there, somehow and extra bolt got in my counted lot... Grrr!
Of course it was the hardest one to get out in-situ! Cover has come loose a little but still needs some "encouragement", will look again later...

Thanks guys

there are 2 dowels, so a light tap or pry up should work.

I'm not a fan of the pry idea, might nick up the aluminum, but I've used a 2x4 and a hammer to gently persuade things to come loose. Just knock it from the four sided, should work things loose.

Thanks, I will try that.

I should add that the engine is still in the car, trying to remove now to try and get a handle on the full extent of the damage to help decide what to do next..... (hence why I missed one bolt...)

Cheers

Good luck. Those two dowel pins can be a very tight fit.

I should really have a dead blow hammer for stuff like this.
