Distributor problem
Does anyone know what happens when the bearing bushings of a ('84 928S) distributor are worn so much that the rotor points hit the stator points (other than that they will wear)? Will the engine start missing?
Trying to find the cause of occasional misfiring of someone's 928.
Thanks,

call 928 INTL and order a used distributor for half price, stator vanes hitting will cause an unstart

Thanks, so what you're saying, in case it would start, it would also die, or if it hits occasionally, which looks like is the case, the engine would stumble, which it does, erratically.
Also, what doesn't make it any better, is the fact I just found that the shield of the connector to the green cable was corroded, and separated from its connector.

that goes without saying the green wire lasted this long replace it with a fresh part then test maybe your green has failed.
We had a case where the roll pin fell out of the rotor inside the distributor and that let the rotor stop turning in time with the shaft,
then the engine shut down and only backfired while cranking
