Keyless Entry System

For anyone interested, here is a black friday sale on a keyless entry system. I just placed an order as I've been spoiled for too long with FOBs and am tired of using my key.

Anyway, I have ordered from this company on a few occasions and have nothing but great things to say about their products (all for my 993). Head over to the 993 forum and look them up if you need validation.

No affiliation, just a happy customer.

My wife hates that her new Cayenne doesn't have keyless but you still have to use a key to start it so this inly is for entry and you have to dig through you pocket or purse anyway before or after you get in the car. Thanks for the link though.

For a 928 with remote hatch release you might also want to be able to disarm/open the hatch - most KE's can support this (usually with extra relays) - however this one does not have any provision for it.

Good that it does have instructions for install in all but 1984-1988 models (odd because these configurations are not that different). Note that you CAN add the turn signal confirmation to any year (unlike what the manual implies), however connection details do vary by year.

I just noticied that... installation instructions for all years but connection instructions lacks 84-88. I'll shot him an email to see if it was intentional or not.

For the hatch, you would need at least and extra Aux button like this one. The trunk is pretty important in the 928, use it all the time

Thanks! Just ordered some for a couple of my cars. I have ordered stuff from them in the past. Great quality.

Do you have this installed on your 928? If so, pls provide more specifics - brand, installation, etc.
Thx!

I just bought one earlier this week off eBay that looks nearly identical...it was $9.41 including shipping. There are countless vendors that sell them for under $10.00 as it's just a mass produced Chinese import.

Also the wiring harness on the eBay model is fully populated so you'd have an output to pop the trunk if you hold the unlock button for 3 seconds.

I bought mine for a different car, but if it works out, I'll order another for my 928 as it seems like an invisible and easily reversible mod.

Until you have one installed - you don't realize how nice it is - I'd definitely recommend the hatch release feature also (as long as you already have a functioning electric remote release*).

It does usually need some extra work to make the hatch work (varies depending on KE model). It sounds from the last reply that there may in fact be a second channel on the system the OP posted that could be used for this.

I have installed various systems with fobs, with key head integrated fobs and with 'switchblade' (VW like) style key remotes on my GTS. They all need extra work - so a key fob system like this is the easiest to do. It can be a complete piggy back so fairly easy to install/remove and no need to swap out an alarm - can work seamlessly with the stock (or aftermarket) alarm system e.g: Unlock/Disarm, Lock/Arm and Hatch Open/Disarm (or Suspend). Depending on the system can add panic alert, horn chirp confirmation and/or turn signal flash confirmation. Personally I find the horn confirmation (even the alarm horn) to be far too annoying. You don't usually need any dome light control because unlocking/locking usually gets you that functionality anyway.

* I actually recommend deleting the porsche hatch motor** and replacing it with the faster, simpler, quieter & more reliable (non parking) VW versions - I have a write up for it here on Rennlist. The Porsche units always fail in the end - I got tired of resurrecting mine and just dumped it. The VW unit works quickly every time and is far far cheaper than replacing the stock unit. Replacing it does need some fabrications skills.

**it is important that the hatch release works correctly mechanically before you start the swap as this mod fixes the motor related issues (non-running, over-running, continuous running, incorrect parking). It does not fix other failures to release the latch due to e.g. alignment/wear/damage issues.

Not yet, will be installing it next month. It's a normal Viper keyless from eBay. The remote looks a little like the 928 key and has no chrome! I really only want keyless doors and hatch, not interested in any extra security features

I feel silly spending $55 on this now, seemed like a deal at the time.

My other car has no keys, and no door handles, which is great for confusing the unwary.

I used to think that it was really clever design, but it's much more likely that it was primarily a cost saving feature knowing TVR...

^^ Most likely cost cutting knowing TVR's history. They are parts bin cars like Ford era Aston Martins.

Is it like a few of the other modern ones where you press a button under the mirror to open the door?

Same here... However, similar to purchasing from Roger/928Motorsports/etc, I know that if there is any issue with the install or hardware, Tore will back it up with the proper support and/or replacement. I'll consider the additional cost as part of the customer service and warrantee, something that will likely not be there for eBay purchases.

Where does it tie into system? How do you install it?

Meaning where is best place for module? Next to fuse panel I am guessing?
