not one weld, but a WHOLE bunch of tack welds. you use tacks in a flew places then stitch weld around it.

Unless I can source a gasket that is thicker or if two OEM gaskets are able to compensate for the difference in gap with a flat 11mm spacer.

Install the xpipe and center it. measure the distance between the sealing surfaces to get the thickness spacer needed. send me that info and the flange dimensions to get the bolt circle and I will make you one to fit for minimal cost. Ed

If you shim the one side out, you will be then having the flanges at an angle. Who knows if it will be enough of an angle to create a leak or not.

With how far off that is I think it would be better to cut off the flanges and reweld them back on.

How much was the coating?? Ask the client what he wants to do. I would return it and ask for a new one. Unfortunately you can't ask for them to coat the new x member, or ask them to replace and coat it as well. I am sure they will try to sell the off spec one to re-coup their cost anyway.

The X-pipe is around $600.00 with the install kit. I'm not really sure, cause I bought some other parts along with it. Regardless, for that kind of money, it should fit correctly, with zero hassles! SEND IT BACK,! I've gotten parts that didn't fit, they were always more than happy to exchange the part. **** happens, send it back!

The one I bought, went into my car, with zero issues.

Yes If I shimmed it the spacer would need a 1.5mm pitch

Yep will talk to them. Coating was not cheap, $250 IIRC.

Sorry for the trouble Adam but once I talk with the manufacturer on Monday we will see what we can sort out.
IIRC this is the first time I have had an unhappy customer with an X pipe so we will see how they respond.
Also the fact that we supplied it back in May 2016 does not help my cause.
I will cover for the cost of the product as supplied or replace so you have that in the bank.
As for the hot coat I doubt they will cover it but we will see. They are a reputable company and as of now not even aware there is an issue. I will call them Monday and give them a chance to do the right thing.

Is there a chance maligned engine and transmission mounts could cause this much a problem?

Thanks Roger, this build has been a long one and the x-pipe sat in my basement until recently, reminding me how long I have been working on this beast. LOL

Nope, there is very little wiggle room plus the mounts are new, along with almost everything else. )

Adam since i was on RL I was asked by the pipes maker for you to call him and he would work out a resolution,
I used to work with him when i lived out there in Utah.

I sent you an E mail with his number if you dont see it PM me and i will resend it,

If you dont want to do that then I see that Roger has offered to work out a resolution,

Either way you should get another pipe, I also let Roger know about this e mail I sent you

Ok, I guess I'll come clean...

For the past several years all the crossovers have been made by the same person, on the same jig, with the same welder. They are all tested before they leave for fitment but sometimes a missed weld will get by me. Yes, it's me. All of the crossovers have been done by me. I have never professed to be a professional welder but I have never had a weld fail on any of the crossovers either. I am not trying to win any contests with my welding, just trying to make them work. They are after all just an exhaust component. We have encountered a couple that pointed off-center but fit fine on the jig and as usual we have, and will continue to do so, do everything in our power to make it right with the customer. Should anyone want to teach me better welding skills, I am open but once again, I am not welding space shuttle motor mounting brackets, just exhaust components with zero weld failures to date.

The cars do vary, sometimes by quite a bit but I can assure everyone that the jig hasn't been modified, dropped or changed in any way. I have come across crossovers that we made over a decade ago that drop into the jig perfectly. I plan on leaving the jig as it is because it fits over 98% of the cars it was made for. Installers may have to push or pull a bit to make it fit but that's pretty common on exhaust components for any vehicle. Baking them at 400 degrees can relieve or cause stresses making things move around but I really didn't have any problems with that when I was "Jet Hot" coating them. I do not know if Swain coatings use higher temperatures but that could be something to check out.

If the customer wants to return it, no problem. I think we have refunded 2 in the lifetime of the crossover. If he wants to work with us on finding a fix for his situation, we will gladly assist as we have before.

If you could do me a favor first, install the crossover as it is supposed to be installed with gaskets and bolts installed and tightened to spec. I had one recently on an 87' that looked like it was off to the right just like yours but centered itself perfectly when tightened.

Did that already, the pic showing it off centre was with it bolted down with gaskets. I'm picking up a factory CAT tonight from a local owner to test fit on this car to confirm with certainty what is off, the pipe or the car. From there I will decide the next steps. Stay tuned.
