LOL yea, I've been following that story.
I remember when getting kicked in the head was considered normal if you are up front at a show. My how Rock & Roll has changed....

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you guys. I'm hoping Colin can be bothered to leave the house that day
This is my first trip without a Rental car or falling back on Uber/Lyft. I'm studying the SkyTrain map and I'm probably going to pick a hotel close to the route. By the time I'm done staring at the grater Vancouver map planning this trip (or just trying to pick a hotel) I'll have it memorized!!

Any thoughts on staying in Gastown? Close to Waterfront station, looks like a cool area to check out and wander around on a day we don't feel like traveling anywhere.

These two places cool:

Gastown area is a nice visit during the day........kinda sketchy at night.

We're not that far away; may have to schedule a trip that weekend

The first one has received good reviews locally, it is a fairly new establishment set-up by our first nations. I think it's a great idea they came up with. The decor is said to be stunning. Location wise, it is situated on the edge of the "rougher" side of town. It's an area undergoing revitalization. The gate to Chinatown is practically on the corner. Not necessarily a bad thing...but you just need to be prepared for more street action...so to speak. Walk one block north and you would find yourself in the thick of Vancouver's homeless population...and quite possibly the biggest fentanyl crisis in Canada. Mostly harmless street people struggling with mental health & addiction issues.

The second would be considered inside the "gentrified" part of the city...or "up the hill" in the fancier part of town Nice area, reasonable quiet as well, but more $$$ part of the city for shopping & food establishments.

Both are good options and both are excellent walking bases. They are both closer to the Stadium/Chinatown Skytrain station than Waterfront station. Personally, I like both of these areas for the diversity and location...it just depends what you want to see when you exit the front doors!

I just discovered my corporate rate for a rental car is dirt cheap. 1-2 day rental cheaper than any other possible way to get from Vancouver to Seattle.

I have free parking at the Vancouver hotel, so the big question: Is it worth it to have a rental for the 6 days in Vancouver or just use public transport? I keep hearing horror stories about driving around and parking in Vancouver. We are planing a day trip to the Sea / Sky Gondola, so that would be a fun drive. Trying to decide what day to grab the rental. It's so cheap for the week, not sure it matters. Just seems silly to have a rental sitting a the hotel 3-4 days of non-use.

Parking at the hotel in Seattle is $40 a day so definitely not wasting $160 there.

What's the plan on meeting up with some of you? Saturday the 20th in Vancouver has been suggested (and works for us) I'll work around whatever location you all pick.
Not sure a day has been brought up for Seattle, just a location Derby at The Shop which looks awesome. Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will work for us.

I suggest Sat or Sun for the Seattle GTG. Derby sounds cool. I've been courios to check out The Shop as well. And with the Seahawks flamming out traffic should be real nice and light. I'll put the word out with the PNW 928 group. Some of them are on RL as well so we should have everyone covered.

Erik........I have confirmed 2 trips to Vancouver in Jan which I can amend to suit a 928 event in town.

My schedule is next week and the week of the 22nd.

Rather than read the entire thread could you adjust your #1 post for the 928 gathering where and when in Vancouver...........yipee!

Hey Erik, what hotel did you finally land on? We can pick a meet location somewhere in the vicinity!

DT Vancouver is quite compressed and very walk-able. If the rental car is cheap and parking is free then it might be worth having it on hand for those longer trips, otherwise your feet and public transit will get you most anywhere you want to go. There is even a Seabus service across Burrard inlet to the North Shore as well as cheap water taxis to ferry around False Creek/Granville Island. My suggestion for using public transit is to buy pre-loaded Compass cards as they give the best rate tariff when riding the system. You can buy them at any Skytrain Station or at vending machines in various locations in the city.

There has been a shocking lack of discussion of the best pizza and dessert places to visit on this thread.

Just saying.....

:-)

How about the top 5 cannot miss breweries?

Also the best place to get grub at 1AM after the concert on Thursday.

For the Seattle folks thinking about meeting up with everyone for lunch, I have made reservations for us in the lounge room inside the Derby restaurant at The Shop (http://theshopclubs.com/) for noon (12PM) on Sunday January 28th. Look forward to seeing you all there!
