What I usually do, and plan to do with my GTS.
Make a simple add with one picture and general description and place on Autotrader and Cars.com.
Build a webpage with in-depth pic/info on the car, that I link to the adds.

Here are the pages I made for...

My 90GT
RangeRover
friends 944turbo
my CayenneS

Made it so the listings on the for sale site ads you have to copy and paste to the URLs to get to the car page.
Mainly because ebay/autotrader etc don't allow links in their adds, but you can up the URL.
Found having to copy/paste for more info gets rid of most the tire kickers.
You can always tell the tire kickers/scamers, they email questions that are answered on the web page.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe most everyone in the world suggests BAT! *sarcasm*
Well done Droo and others who've found a world outside of BAT or Rennlist.
I'm astonished and not surprised *1/2 sarcasm*

Below are the numbers I consider to be from the two of the biggies...at least here in the states....eBay and BAT. Last twenty four MY78-86 928's sold on BAT....$16,529 per unit. Last twenty four MY 78-86 928's that sold on eBay approx. $7,278 per unit. Last ten MY87-91 928's that sold on BAT...$25,102 per unit. Last ten MY 87-91 928's that sold on eBay...$ 12,273 per unit. Really not enough GTS units sold for comparison at this time. T

Note: Exact sold price on a few of the eBay sales had a line through the final sale price in the sold column. I've adjusted down $200 less per unit.. probably should have been a bit more but it's a guess. T

^^^ excellent sleuthing T. *no sarcasm*
What I find miserable is that these are the big two? Seriously.
There is way more action going on. At least I hope that's the case.

Oh..there's more action....Craigslist, Hemmings, Autotrader, Cars.com, etc., etc., and lets not forget word of mouth, your local paper, etc. Pure unsubstantiated speculation on my part regarding website traffic generated by eBay and BAT. Still feel these two sites generate more sales than the rest at least judging by what funnels through the "928's for Sale" thread. T

There is no doubt in my mind that by far the most viewed sight for looking to buy cars is Craigslist. And I bet there is not even a close second when it comes to web traffic. But as we all know Craigslist is regional and that limits the specific views on any one car. I don't know this for a fact but I think they spend millions of dollars to prevent their site from being searched as a whole. Sure there are sites that claim they search all of CL but every time I've used one of them I have gone to the local city CL and found cars that didn't show up on the all-search. Additionally most people don't use those kind of searches, so when you go to put up you 928 for sale locally on CL you are only getting a fraction of the views compared to eBay or Autotrader or Cargurus, etc. But the biggest issue with CL IMO is that everyone who's looking expects a deal. Especially when your well cared for driver quality 928 shows up in a search next to a handful of ratted out 928s that from an uneducated buyer looks similar enough for them to throw you a low ball offer. To a lesser degree this happens on eBay but at least you are more insulated from the low ball offers and can set the reserves you are comfortable with. BaT as we know for the most part curates the selection to better quality cars. Sure a few clunkers show up from time to time but buyers are starting to realize that better quality examples show up over there than on CL and eBay. Tony pointed out the numbers and they don't lie. And like I said above, if you have a very good quality 928, it has a better chance to sell for more on BaT than the other sites. If on the other hand it's just average, then eBay or CL is safer because you can set your price.

Now if you have what you believe is a top 5% example, then I suspect either the big auction houses or consignment with a Porsche broker whose clients are the 1% rich guys that don't want to be bothered with auctions would be the way to go.

I have good success with Auto Trader and the PCA Classifieds, no trolls deal directly with buyers and no Buyers commission, I like Droomans suggestion, Find that euro buyers are buying more and more US cars at a Premium. There is a new Auction site being launched this month, PCARMARKET,good format and only selling Porsches, Might try that one out next.Being partially run by my friends at Collector Car Show case.

I think some people are just into the whole buying and selling thing. That's okay. Whatever floats your boat. Once in a while it is fun to surf on to the BAT site. The entertainment if I am in the right mood is certainly there.

However, I would never sell a car on BAT because:
(1) I really don't want a car's history posted everywhere, and as an owner I am really happy my 928s are basically unknown
(2) I almost never sell or buy anything fast. Probably some people would call me a bad or unmotivated seller. So be it!
