Default smoke after engine rebuild

If you guys recall my car had a crack block and the car have been in the workshop since. I manage to sources another block and head from another 928 around here.

Today I test drove the car as the rebuild is done. The mechanic said i needed few things which is The fuel pressure regulators, Oil pump sensors and injectors.

What I notice today is

When He starts the car- The car will produce a puff of dark grey smoke from the exhaust. and the smoke will be gone during idle.

During traffic,I followed the car from behind- What I notice- The car will have some smoke from the exhaust at certain times. Eg. Stop at traffic light -and you press the gas pedal I saw the smoke coming out from the exhaust and the smokes stop. and smoke will comes out randomly sometimes during drive at traffic. During idle or at low speed- No smoke at all i notice

I ask the mechanic- He said I must drive it at least long distance for a while then it will be gone. Then I will have to bring it for the first service.

Ideas? The smoke smell a bit like fuel but i'm not pretty sure.

I've spend so much already on this car.

FYI- 2 times the engine is pull out because of non stop smoke from exhaust during the 1st time rebuild due to the original head is crack

Do what he mechanic said. Drive it for a bit and see if it goes away. You could still have oil in the exhaust or the catalytic converter that needs to burn off.

And 928s like to run rich during acceleration == black fuel-smelling smoke.

Your mechanic told you it needs injectors. Old clogged-up injectors can cause the entire motor to run rich. Injectors can be cleaned and refurbished.

It would be good to know what year is your 928 and with what kind of transaxle is it equipped.

Your post doesn't make any sense. Your mechanic has already told you you have fuel components which are not functioning properly, yet you are asking about smoke problems.that sound like excessive fuel.

You can ruin an engine/individual cylinders with excessive fuel. Immediately repair the fuel related problems he has told you about....the pressure regulator (also likely the dampers) and the injectors.

Your 928 is an early GTS- when you replaced the block did that come from a GTS motor or from an earlier S4 variant? If you are not sure just post the replacement engine number and someone will confirm what the original donor motor was

If you have issues with the fuel regulator, dampers and/or injectors how can you expect the motor to run correctly?
