+++ on the 928MS ball shift cup. A little awkward to install but not bad. I installed this and the short shift lever from the same vendor and the shifting experience is completely changed. Now transmission "snicks" from gear to gear beautifully. I love this combo.

On ebay.

I have the same problem for the blue car, seems to be the rear coupler. When I find time I will remove the coupler, fabricate and install new bronze bushings. The rubber boot at the rear coupler is very stiff, hard to pull back in order to get access to the allen screw. Any good tips?

I think this is good advice since it is a street car.

as mentioned, the rubber boot feels very thin and fragile, but it is still intact. will spend the 50. for a new one if forced to, but has anyone modified some sort of steering rack boot?

Stick with the factory front ball cup and not that piece of **** people keep installing.

I usually rebuild the rear coupler with either the oval bushings from Porsche or the round hole ones. I get all of it from Roger.

hey Sean, and others,
since I have only know what a bad shifter feels like, can other 5spd owners comment on the stock feel with GOOD bushes?

I am under the impression that on its best day out of the factory, the shifter was always "vague"

I forgot is ask:

is the feel of the 1990 GT trans any different from the other 5 spd boxes?

perhaps some of you, lucky, multiple owners can chime in.

Shifting-wise, no.

I must admit, I found the metal shift cup a big step up from the factory piece which, in retrospect, had been failing for some time giving me vaguer and vaguer shifting until it completely failed leaving me with no shifting (quite a few threads on that topic).

Have you experience with the failure mode of the metal piece? Would be nice to know what to expect....

No failures but plenty of customers complaining about how hard it is to install, how much vibration they are getting through the shifter and the worry about the metal on metal contact where you are supposed to have a nice bushing in between.

I've tossed 2 of them in the trash over the past 8 or so years and just shake my head when anyone asks me to install one. I'm amazed at the trash people put on their cars. But 100% Ebay satisfaction yo!

Well, not my experience. I put grease on the metal on metal. Seemed to do the trick. Didn't buy it on Ebay either....

The shifting isn't any different but the shift points come up a bit sooner due to the higher rear ratio. Feel of the shifter is the same if the bushings are similar.

Listen to Sean on the right materials to use. He's done this a few times. I think Roger has it in stock, or can get it in a day or so.

'Yo', sounds like a personal problem to me...

It is an excellent piece of hardware on a track car.
