Default RHD and LHD Shift Levers

Can a RHD shift lever be changed to LHD by reversing (or changing out) internal parts? Or to say it another way, is the bare **** the same and the only diff are the moving parts inside?

Jerry Feather, I bet you know ... are you out there?

Edit: Yes, referring to an automatic shift lever

IF you are referring to the automatic leaver then YES.
I have no idea about manual shifters (for 928's).

Manual shifters for right hand drive are on the left of the driver, which is right (correct) for right hand drive, and right as we drive on the left (correct) side of the road. Manual shifters for left hand drive cars are on the right side of the driver, which is right, if you drive on the wrong (right) side of the road. Both shifters, however, are right because they are in the centre of the car, and they are physically the same ... LHD drivers are just on the wrong side ... they should be on the right, which is right (correct).

Hope that clears up any confusion

I'm here, Tom. You are talking about the later version of the auto shift t-handle. First carefully remove the two screws that hold it to the shaft shaft and take it off, if you haven't already. Then pull the shift button and shaft out of it. It looks like it is one piece, but it is two. carefully but forcefully pull it apart. Then put it back together the other way.

Next, carefully push the plug out of the right hand pocket of the cross part of the t-handle. Push it out from inside with something. Then the tough part is to carefully remove the liner that is in the left hand pocket which fits snugly inside the leather. It is black, but it is made of aluminum and is pretty thin. I have found it difficult to remove, so I am not sure how best to recommend you get yours out. When it is out it goes back in on the other side.

Then put the plug in to the other side and the button and its shaft goes back in its other side, and now you can push the button with your left thumb, assuming you have changed from lhd to rhd.

Edit: Oops, I see that you are changing the other way. The same method applies, of course.

You got that right (correct).

Note: Down under might also actually be the top side of the world.
