Instrument wiring oddities

First I found a wire from the back of the speedo to ground. That's my jumper I used to test.

When I disconnected it this is what the indicator lights look like:

When I connected it back it looks like this:

I placed a spare instrument panel in it's place and it was fine.

Is this a printed circuit board issue? Seems so.

Second surprise was the wiring to the headlight switch.

The two wires in play go to DS and PS clearance and side marker lamps per the WSM. The white and white with black stripes go under the center console.

Of note is that this car has HID headlight fog lights. Not sure that was a part of the reason the PO's PO hacked the wires.

Since all the lighting seems to work I am going to clean up the wiring and call it a day.

Third was an aftermarket LED pod upgrade i replaced with superBright LEDs.

Gonna guess that the extra wires were for lighting on something, like an aftermarket stereo or gauges or something.

'Cuz, after all, there isn't any sort of wiring for illumination anywhere in the pod or center console (we really need a 'sarcasm' font).

Looks like an in line diode for the LEDs at the shifter?
