Instrument cluster question
 

i have two '82 928s. One is a manual and one is an auto. They have two different speedometers. The auto has the 85MPH speedo and the manual has a 160 one. Both are US models. Yes, there were 2 different speedos you could get.

The 85 mph one is the standard US model one installed in most US cars from the factory.

The 160 MPH one is from a ROW car is and was a common retrofit into the 928 from 84 back.

I think you could get the non 85 one in the US standard but had to pay extra tax or something weird.

That makes sense for this car given how uniquely it is optioned: sunroof delete, rub strip delete, limited slip, 5-speed, full leather, Hellbronze Metallic paint.

One more question related to this car's instrument binnacle. The binnacle is black while the leather bits are brown, and the seats tan. It would surprise me if the binnacle had been swapped given the original condition of the rest of the car. There is the usual amount of black trim pieces in the car so it doesn't look out of place and I have seen photos with a number of 928s with both color matched and non-matching (black) binnacles. I just wonder if any knows whether there is any rhyme or reason to it.
