Question Whatever happened to the modern Phone Dial Thread?

Searching for the modern phone dial thread - plan to make 3 piece modern phone dials in 18"/19" sizes...

Did I miss something? or dream up the whole thing?

Was kind of hoping there had been some progress on this...

Ah OK - but no real progress unfortunately.

Thanks Rob, don't know why I didn't find this one with search.

Would it not be easier to mill an existing wheel and make a 3 piece rim like these?

These are a 3-piece wheel being manufactured by Fikse.

The design goal for these wheels, which made this very challenging, is keeping the same profile look while expanding from 16" to 18". There have been many larger phone dials made over the years, but the proportions and curves just never looked right...

Also wanting to do away with the exposed bolts on the external side.

Default Project PD update

Best news is the project is active and a wheel order is in the works for the original first orders (via kickstarter).
I will update the original project thread shortly.

Which are a knock-off of the original 'Speedline for Porsche' 993RS wheels.

I have read the original thread at least a couple of times and fully appreciate and applaud the goal - just thought it had hit a road block and something like this may be less work. I actually quite like the exposed Allen bolts

That's why we all have different opinions. I associate the exposed bolts with the exposed rivets holding on fender flares.... Just looks incomplete.

It doesn't help for those who were around when 3-piece wheels hit the scene and every manufacture started to glue on fake bolts to stimulate the "3-piece" look.

IMO it got old really quick.

Bolted rims are great for racing, because you can mix inner and outers to get whatever width and offsets you want, and really convenient to quickly replace a section to rectify damage. They are a total PITA to clean, and IMO one piece wheels look much better ... especially on a 928.

The wheels he pictured are actually the Speedline for Porsche 993 RS wheels. Porsche used these at the time for racing on the cup cars and the 3.8RSR's of the 964 and GT2 EVO's. They argued that it would be easier and cheaper to repair them in the case of damage at the track. I have found Porsche played games with offsets and part numbers and had similar sized wheels with different offsets but never used a specific part number for some sizes.

I agree as a concours guy I show my 94 turbo and 3.8RSR track car and it is a time consuming process to clean them. My Fikses are three piece and much easier to clean in some respects without the exposed bolts.

The big advantage is to be able to make odd offsets like my rear RSR speedlines which are 11 ET5.

You might look at these made for the AMMO 964 they are D90's but if they can make these maybe they can make the phone dials as well.

BTW you can't really get wheels like these unless you go three piece at least not many companies make them like this anymore. These are the factory 9.5 x 18ET 57 and 11 x 18 ET 5

BTW these are some of the most copied Porsche wheel

Easiest and cheapest way to get 993 RS look is this 8x18 ET52 and 9.5x18 ET47 Veloce RS set.
