Default Intermittent Tachometer Function, where to start?

I have my gauge cluster out at the moment for something unrelated, and am wondering if there is something I should check in the cluster itself that may be causing the tach issue I'm having before I put it all back together. More often than not the tach is dead. But every noe and again it gets a little burst of life. Any suggestions?

Circuit foil, connections at the big plugs to the pod, connections between the foil and the tach itself.

Mine is similar but in that it starts d.o.a. every so often. I quick thump on the pod just above the gauge and it comes to life. Fixing this is on this winter's mx list. Plan is to remove the circuit foil and clean per Dwayn'e guide here...

Oh my god, thank you for posting that link! I followed his instructions and my tach is working! For how long, I don't know. But fingers crossed. I just finished putting the dash back together. A few interior panels left to go and the car will be whole again (until I decide to fix something else). As always, you guys are awesome!

The three little 5mm nuts tend to have a poor contact and one is the ground for the tach. I rebuilt a few clusters and always had an issue with those

Glad it's working now! Good to know that guide works. I've followed some of his other guides. Dwayne's the man!
