The early all manual sports seats are more rare than that. As far as I've been able to find, they were part of the Porsche Exclusive Catalog and not "standard" in any 911.

I've only seen 928's with the Competition Package (which I think was North America only) with them. I'm sure anyone could order them with any car purchase, but I'm sure the price was astronomical which is why we rarely see them.

I have two pairs, one came with my 81 (has the comp package) and they are hands down the most comfortable of all stock 928 seats. The most uncomfortable are the 8 way adjustable with lumbar in my 87. I'm really disappointed with how those seats feel.

The early manual sport seats sit on the same frame as all manual seats from that era.

I have the original sport seats out of my 1982 Euro S that I may get rebuilt someday. I replaced them with sport seats out of a 89 930. The old ones are way lighter and sit way lower. The broken down ones were very comfortable (I had them covered with real sheep skins) and the new ones are almost as comfortable. Here are some pics.

I'm not sure how valid anyone's comparisons of seats are going to be now (even if they sat in them when the subject 928 was new and the subject sitter has not actually aged since let alone shrunk expanded etc.). All depends on how many miles/hours the specific seat has done under which *** !

However for some really useless data points

FWIW the sport seats in my 88SE give me back pain in about an hour but this goes away after about 2.5 hours. The supposedly the same seats in my 90GT are mildly uncomfortable all the time but not depressingly so.

The Recaro seats in my 2003 Opel Astra Convertible are great for about 3 hours then I need about a two hour break. The completely collapsed seat base in my 1998 LR Discovery is really comfortable forever so far, but as I am nearly sitting on the floor need to do something soon while I can still see over the dash,

Oh and to complete the data point and I am 6'0" and about 140lbs but have relatively short legs and long back.

I had these 928 sport seats in my 928GTS. However, I found it hard to enter or exit the 928. I believe I even sprained my left knee doing so (great, the knee needed for the heavy clutch!) I am 194 cm (6′4) tall, slim.
I consequently reinstalled the comfort seats a few months ago. I think the comfort seats fit also better to the GT character of the 928.
I have 993 sport seats in my 944, and don’t have these problems to enter or exit the 944.
The sport seats are for sale (rare), they are located in Munich, Germany.

They are a pain to get in & out of, but I love how secure you feel once in place. Mine came out of a very nice 86.5 that got totaled and parted out.

Especially for a tall person. A question of technique? Move the sport seat to the rearmost position before getting up and leave the seat in that position. Enter the car with the seat in the rearmost position and, after sitting down in the seat, move the seat forward to the driving position.

Should have thought of that when I still had the sport seats in the car!

Yes, that's the advantage of these sport seats. Even for spirited street driving, no need/want for racing seats.

The seats in my 89 are in bad need of recovering, was thinking of making the bolster side extensions, then having my 12 way heated seats recovered.

I think Robert Budd offers this conversion too. Gonna have to give him a call.

Thanks everyone!
