You should look a the engine removal section for the 32V engine, not the 16V engine as shown in your screen shot of the manual. There are only a few things of what you have removed that actually need to come off to remove the engine. Every non-metal item you touch/disturb will likely get damaged due to age/brittleness and need replaced.

NOTE: loosen the crank pulley bolt before you separate the bellhousing from the block unless you have the correct flywheel lock adapter to use while the engine is on a stand.

I'm kinda stuck removing harnesses from panel. There are two harness wirings connected to all others if I remove engine. They're on the far right bottom portion of panel. Can't seem to figure out how to remove.

Any recommendations? M harness seems to have alot of wires connected to it. Is there a reason for that?

Green and yellow bottom right side harnesses are a pain to remove.

They're all connected.

Pull the harness from the engine and lay it over the passenger fender.

Disconnect all the injectors, knock sensors, temp sensors, etc., and when everthing is disconnected, lay the harness over the passenger fender.

On the CE Panel to remove the large colored plugs, you need to pull that RED tab in the middle at the bottom to release all the connectors, then carefully push over the little white plastic locks on each.

edit: if you are hell bent on doing it by the book, pass all small connectors through the firewall hole first, then the two big ones last, it is almost a two man job to do it this way.

Reason I wanted to remove harness was that the WSM has that. But also because I was thinking of getting injector harness redone, but what do you guys think about doing that? I don't see damaged and torn wires with the exception of the connector at the MAF. I have two wires exposed, is that part of the wire harness out of the EC to engine?

You can remove the harness, but it's easier with the engine out. And you can more easily get the engine out if you do what the guys said and disconnect the harnesses from the engine and hang them over the fender. Then just yank the engine.

And then buy a pressure washer.

...or buy a cheap garden sprayer, a gallon of Simple Green and an assortment of nylon brushes. Put undiluted Simple Green into an empty spray bottle and give everything in the engine bay a liberal spraying. Let it soak a minute, then scrub with the brushes. Rinse with HOT water from the garden sprayer. Repeat as needed. This will remove the built up gunk and oil without removing the factory cosmoline or forcing water into places you don't want it (like ABS wiring, etc)

Thanks for the advice for cleaning up and thats the one thing I want to do, I had a leak from the power steering banjo that made a mess everywhere. I can't wait to clean it up like new.

Thanks for all the help guys but let me ask you this, and I know all of you guys have done this but can the whole harness be removed before engine is out? I have a hard time looking at all cables under the MAF and seeing that I can disconnect everything. I'm skeptical but going to do it anyways since you guys have done this.

Also, would it be worth redoing injector harness? I mean sending it in to have it redone with new wiring and connectors? I'm definitely going to replace engine wire harness, mine is in horrible shape and found a spot that shorted!

I would suggest buying a brand new one from Roger versus redoing the existing one.

Okay sounds good. But I do have to take off complete harness out of car right? I'm assuming those injector wires connect to CE, right?

I'm simply amazed how technical this 30 year old best is! the CE is simply intimidating.

Don't forget to disconnect the wiring from the crossmember on the driver side. hidden there and will keep you from pulling engine. Uses a 10mm wrench to take off the retaining nut.

Get an ice blaster over there to clean the engine bay. Way less messier than simple green or other stuff and very effective. Spend a couple hundred dollars and have the pro clean it.

Jeff, thanks for heads up and it is already disconnected I just need to run it forward to it clears it. Its just hanging there right now.

I've seen those ice blasters do wonders on a 959 engine. Who sells them? easy to use?
