16x9" Et60 front: Does it work?
According to my math a 16x9" Et60 wheel will work on the front of a 87+ 928. Basically, I'm talking about running a set of four rear Club Sports on all four corners (with the OE spacer on the rear of course.)
I seem to recall that there are one or two folks (maybe from a long, long time ago) that have run or tried rear Club Sports on the front and I'm looking for their experiences.
I spent some time searching, but didn't find old threads.
Anyone?

I have a car on blocks and a 9x16 ET60 bare CS wheel in my storage garage, what section width tire do you want to use? I can mount it up and show the wheel clearance through the full range of motion.

That would be awesome Rob! The only 'useful' size for that is a 245/45.

I ran 9 x 16 Club sports on all four corners of my 86.5. I loved it. Between that and 89 GT coilovers - and Louie Ott's rear drop links it was great handling car. I ran 245/45s all around.

245/50-16's on my 87, mounted on widened phone dials which are about 8.4" wide with et65.
My tires rubbed the swaybar just shy of full lock. I added some rack limiters, no more rubbing and I don't really notice the diminished turning radius.

As is often the case, I didn't think this through, probably not meaningful to post pics of a bare wheel at full droop- unless you're going to get 'air' at full lock, the following pics are meaningless. I do have a set of Bridgestone RE-11s coming in stock 16" size (225/50-16 and 245/45-16) so when they're mounted, I'll put a rear on the front and re-measure.
FWIW, the outer width of the rim faces on a 9x16ET60 clubsport are 10-1/8". You might extrapolate from the pics how a tire of section width 'X' will look.
But for now, here are some shots at full droop:
Straight on:
Clearance to spring perch - about 1-1/8":
Full lock left- the rim actually contacts the upper control arm, but you'd never be in this position anyway...:

I ran this on my 89 Gt for years, Many will cringe but around 1992 Porsche was blowing out the 9x16 gt wheels for $250 each. They did not have cheap fronts so I bought 4 9's just to try

Awesome! Thanks Mark. That'll make Tim happy.
I don't suppose you have the 'extra' two sitting around. I'll double your money
But, it never hurts to ask!

And Rob? Thanks for the effort and the pictures.
Before I posted this thread I was pretty confident that it would work fine. Now I'm 110% sure.
Thanks folks!

Hi hopwood, would it be possible to post a close up looking from the top of the fender down? I am wondering how much those wheels stick out. It lokks like It's a nice flush look! Thanks if possible!
@ Worf, thanks, this was an interesting question for me too!
